good "cheap" ati card, to softmod

what is the best deal of an Ati Card- 9500 or slightly better/worse, then can be softmodded to a higher card?

The problem is finding one. They are rare... (not 9500 in general, but 9500 with 9700 PCB) Then comes the fact that you got about 50/50 chance that it wont work anyway as the activated pipes dont function.
Just buy a 9600XT and be happy, it aint that expensive

I'd suggest saving up a bit longer for the 9800xt. It's what im doing, sure I'd love to get it with the new machine, but I've bills and debts to pay, and apparantly we need food to live so I gotta pay for that stuff too. I'm sure I'll get one, just not yet, so its something to look forward to further down the line

Or you could go for a 9800pro, the price will probably come down a lot now as they try to get rid of them off the shelves and since their probably going to be discontinued so the xt can take their place you could find a good deal somewhere. And apart from better OCing support the xt isn't all that much different from the pro, or so I've heard

If his budget was around 200 dollars, "saving up for a bit longer" isn't gonna get him a 9800xt. Not all of us have 400/500 dollars to blow on a video card.


If you can get a 9600xt, get it.

I can only remember that the core is 500mhz... The memory isnt changed from 9600 Pro I think (or very little). But about that item, is it guaranteed a SUCCESFULL softmod? As I said, any card with a 9700 PCB can softmod to it, but not all will actually activate the extra pipes since they can be flawed in the hardware.

Yes, it is a successful softmod, its the same guy I brought it off.

I got 2500 with 9500 then I softmodded it and got about 4000, overclocking it I managed to 4500...
