Self-Explanatory. I'd like a pair of speakers for my PC, since at the moment it's using the monitor to produce sound, which is pretty shite.

I'm on a pretty tight budget - around ?20-?30 max. Would it be better to get a cheap 5.1 set, Or a good solid pair of normal speakers? I'm guessing the latter, but either way, help would be appreciated.

Also, how could I plug them in - Using the audio sockets at the back of the case? (The three differently coloured thingymigigs)

I have the 5.1 version of these Logitech speakers which were ~40 quid when I bought them. Good sound, reliable - haven't had any problems with them and I got them about 2 years ago. I imagine the 2.1 version will be the same since it's almost identical, just with fewer speakers.

My flatmate has a similar set from Creative which are pretty good too.

With 5.1 and 2.1 sets that are in the same price range usually the 2.1 will have a lot better power per speaker and sub. I would think they would sound better as well although no surround sound for movies etc.

Eejit's suggestion is what I was also going to suggest. Here they are on Newegg:

I've had these speakers for a couple years and have had no problems with them. They are quite possibly the best 2.1 speakers based on the quality they provide for how cheap they are.

As far as plugging them in, coming out of the right speaker is a green plug that plugs into the corresponding color on your motherboard/sound card.

Get 2.1s if that's all you're spending, you can get a decent set of speakers that way

I just got the one you mentioned, These speakers are amazing, nice, compact, stylish and sleek design. The sound is great and with any sort of music the sound stays great. Very loud and they don't appear to ever go distorted. And I purchased it at a deal price of $31

Everything is perfect with the X-230s. It has a great subwoofer, everything is good. I think it's worth every penny.
