good file type for video

hay, whats a good audio file format to use if i wanna import my own sounds to my HL video that I'm using windows movie maker for.I seem to have about 300000000 to choose from so just list your suggestions.

ah yes good ol mp3 that seems to be the only file i cant get. I use Audacity to record my stuff and try to export as mp3 only to get a lame_enc.dll error.

But i can save it as a WAV and some other files.So you guys know of any good programs that can make my WAV into an mp3.
