Im in a bit of a hurry, my dad is at a computer store to buy a new computer and he calls me now and then to ask questions. It seems like they have good computers (processors, RAM etc etc) but the graphic cards just sux!!!

They dont even have any ATI Radeon X1(whatever), X1600 for example. The best they have is ATI Radeon X500 ....thats not even 1thousen 500. So what im asking for is what this X really is, is it that valuable? Right now i have an ATI Radeon 9600XT, with no X infront of it. So is the X500 better then the one i have right now?

Also, what is a good Gforce card? I dont know much about those, but the best they have is Gforce 6600... is that good?

We want a pretty powerfull graphics card, not to expensive, but atleast better then the ATI Radeon 9800XT, prefered with an X(onethousen) something.

Im going panic!!!!!

Are you building the comp, and your dads just buying the components?

Hes buying complete Set.

Anyway, to late, he already bought. Specifications:

1 Gig RAM (enough)

Athlon 64 Bit 2.Something GhZ. Now, i dont know much about AThlon, only Pentium, so is this one good? I have Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz, which is better?

ATI Radeon X600 graphic card....no idea wth this is, is it better then Radeon 9800XT?

He might buy a new graphic card later and replace it with its current.

x600 is equivilent to a 9600 you would have been best off with the 6600

thx for answers. Ive just read at ATIs site, it seems like the X600 is better then the one i have, its several steps above it.

http://www.ati.com/products/gamer.html

Its a Next Gen gaming card and its on the recommended list on many of my high quality games that i have.

The computer also has Dual Athlon 64 bit 3.8 Ghz processors
1 Gig Ram

So i guess that the computer can take any game that is released right now, and those released in the near future.

the site is kind of lying. your processors are going to bottleneck the crap out of your graphics card. x600 isn't that great, at all, you should have gone with the 6600 (GT preferably) but even that's getting dated nowadays.

You'll want to upgrade the card asap, within a year at least

hm, thanks for the info. This computer isnt going to be for gaming anyway, its for the whole famely and i have my own private computer right now but its currently broke. I tryed QuakeIV and it can take it on High Settings, so its ok right now.

Btw...is...bottleneck...good or bad? :upstare:

but it still runs at the equivalent of an intel 3.8ghz processor...

thats good to hear! The graphic card is allright for now, might change it later.

Thanks for all your advice and help! :D
