what are some good indie bands outthere
for me its hard to find good indie bands i try listening to shoutcast radio stations but usually the indie bands i hear have like one song thats good and the rest is blargh... im really digging belle and sebastian i doint know if youd call them indie though.

Yes, they're indie. You should probably start with the basic stuff, like saddle creek bands. Cursive, Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley and such. If your into that, try some more old school stuff like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., hell, even Pink Floyd (though they're more classic rock, but they definetly influenced much of indie rock today). Then, move on to bands like Wilco, The Unicorns, Modest Mouse, Frog Eyes, Iron and Wine, stuff like that.

Explosions in the Sky, Neutral Milk Hotel, Manitoba/Caribou, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Calla, The Walkmen.
And then you cant go past:
Sonice Youth, Fugazi, The Doves
Hell, im just listing my Cd collection here, what have you liked in the past?- get more specific, then i can give better recommendations.

The Arcade Fire, AC Newman, Aqualung, Black Keys, Blackalicious, Bloc Party,Blonde Redhead...

I mean, how many do you want? There are a TON of awesome indie bands out there. I totally second that vote for Neutral Milk Hotel. They're incredible.

Oh yeah, not indie, but I'm totally plugging Radiohead here. They're awesome stuff.

i dont really enjoy the acoustic stuff it just seems like the rest of the band is missing and i usually listen to it thinking where is zee bass zee drums?!!

but i enjoy like le tigre belle and sebastians acoustic stuff kind of puts me in a daze. i like the semi electronic sounding like organish stuff like the anniversary maybe sometimes dark vocals. the magnetic fields vocals are what i looking for but sometimes the vocals and ambience dont mixup quite well.

You should come over to the UK, it's practically all indy bands these days, it's like a sudden influx of indy... so much INDY!!!! BLERGHHH!!!

If ya want some indie style check out Gui!'s band, whokilledfrank

Hopefully I will find a band who need a guitarist who is influenced by anything BUT Indie.

Indie is just meh. It's not exactly interesting musically.

You obviously haven't heard much indie.
Indie can range from hip-hop (Ninja High School) to folk (John Rae Fletcher) to dance (Controller.Controller). It's impossible to classify all of indie because indie isn't a specific genre (although for the most part it does all have a certain quality about it).
Here is a list of my favourite bands.
Check out any of these and you will be a happy camper.

I'm an avid music fan of music variable but of alot of what Bohonkie and IonizeMyAtoms have named. However they missed:
Ryan Adams
Mew
Forward Russia!
etc i'm lazy

im loving the girl bands
like
the blonde redhead
rainer maria
tsunami bomb ( not really indie)
le tigre
mates of state
the anniversary

anymore that i missed btw i hate the acousticy stuff, i prefer the poppy sounding dance punkish stuff like thunderbids are now

that's a lot of indie. i don't really know many bands, but you should try listening to the strokes, the pixies, modest mouse, (is the killers indie? they have a lot of synths and stuff, worth checking out if you like stuff like that)

I gave up trying to figure out whats "Indie" and whats not a long time ago. I'm actually surprised how many bands on that list I'm into though. :D

indy just defined to me by a pure record label thats not so big and not too too small

I disagree. Look at Modest Mouse: on a Sony label, definitely still considered indie. or the Flaming Lips. Or countless others
It's such a hard genre to define, because it actually spans multiple genres
In the end though, who cares. Indie is just indie

Yeah, indie used to mean just independant rock but now...it sort of...got its own sound to it now.

ionize and bohonkie pretty much covered everyhting i would be able to think of off the top of my head.

towards the end of the month ill be seeing the mountain goats with a bunch of my friends at the andy warhol museum. i cant wait, it should be a good show.

Its gotten even harder recently because so many Indy bands have hit it big. When Death Cab for Cutie is on MTV, its really hard to figure out whos putting on who.

Arctic Monkeys, thet are awesome, (only have a single out at the mo, looking like a surefire no.1 according to midweeks) but there are shitloads of demo`s out there on the net.

Listening to "Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts" now from the single, they really do seem like they could be the real deal.
