I'm looking for a good, cheap motherboard. Needs to be socket 478 (Current CPU: Intel P4 3.06HT), and I'm looking for one with PCI-E. Not much of a hardware techie, so if I left anything vital out let me know.

Also, when I say cheap I mean in the $100 range.

Socket 478 and PCI-E? Boy that's going to be tough to find. Drop the PCI-E requirement and use AGP and I could find tons.
Generally, Socket 775 uses PCI-E and Socket 478 uses AGP.

*goes and looks anway
I found only one, Albatron.
Wonder how it performs...

Hey! I also found some benchmarks. Takes a bit to load
Of course you could alway switch to AMD if you want better game performance. :O
What an idea.

I agree with the switch to AMD. On top of that an older socket mobo won't support newer technology like PCI-e. If you switch to AMD you will save money and on top of that get better peformance. Switching to AGP would also be a good choice as most cards are AGP so if your looking in the mid-performing range you will have many options and better price wise.

If I must, I'm willing to switch to a new processor, but I'd rather save money and stick with my current CPU. As for the PCI-E/AGP thing, I'd prefer to switch to PCI-E since at least one new card is going to be PCI-E-only, and I'm guessing more will do the same in the future.

Anyway, what would you suggest if I switched to a different processor as well? Again, I still want PCI-E. While you're at it, could you also recommend a good processor and a cheap PCI-E video card? One that would at least run HL2 and WoW, while still in a decent price range. Something to keep me going until I can afford a better card.

I'm very pleased with my Gigabyte K8N-Ultra939. Very cheap PCI-E 939 board.

But sorry, I don't know much about Intel sockets.

Bah. Be quite you extremely good yet at times annoying Asus.

It came much reccomended from the revies (I mean like, anandtech, not newegg) and i'm much pleased with my purchase.

Go back to being normal Asus which I find akin to super man!
