Good News Everyone!

Woohoo!

I too enjoyed the movies, and they were not the funniest, but still... I enjoyed them. Futurama will always have a place in my heart.

being cut down to about 20 minutes of show will allow them to pack more funny in rather than letting things drag on like a movie does.

I know I'm probably alone in my opinion, but I've never found Futurama funny.

Futurama is a show I'm having trouble rewatching at the moment. For every effective, well written episode there are another three that mine the well of lame that the last ten seasons of the Simpsons lives in. I hope the straight to video releases were just mediocre because they were over-stretched (in terms of both running time and their tight production schedule). With an increasing focus on catchphrases and continuity (which became too much of a preoccupation in the fourth season), I kind of feel they've lost touch with what made Futurama great (just... err, don't ask me what that was. I'm really not sure!). Characters seem to parody themselves a bit too much, and the straight to video movies had this horrible tokenism to them, where you had to have at least one appearance by every side character, where they'd say something typical, just because.

And if I hear another Futurama music-number, I'm going to explosively vomit.

WHUPWHUPwhupwhupwhupwhup.

Well, this is cool I guess.
Not a huge fan of the show, it made me chuckle here and there but I don't get why it's so popular.

YAY

But they BETTER not pull a family guy on us and make new episodes so bad, they actually make me hate the originals.

Quite simply in my opinion...

Futurama>New Simpsons>Family Guy

This is awesome news for me.

Those reports should be met with some heavy skepticism by the way. Not that Fox hasn't issued casting notices for those voices, but this would not be the first time they've made such a rather juvenile play so that they could secure the needed actors at lower rates. As noted in the source article, they even tried to pull it on the Simpsons, but wound up having it backfire.

Its going to flop if it doesnt have the original voices.

Yeah, there's not really a question on that front. I'd even be willing to give new writers a chance, but the actors are the one thing they'll need.

well thats some bull****

If this turns out to be true, I will not watch.

Yes, the humor may be on par with the original series, but dammit, Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio made those characters so great.

I'd rather have no Futurama than a shitty re-casted Futurama.

I feel sorry for the sods who will replace them. They will catch big time hell.

F*CK I just saw this and I swear to god I flipped off my computer and let out a very moist fart out of pure anger.

Yeah, I don't buy it for a second. Who can you get to replace Billy West? It's pretty much he and Dan Castellaneta who are the top dogs in the voice actor business. Get rid of West and half their characters disappear. Get rid of Dimaggio and another quarter disappears.

And what about Mister McFarlane? He's quite the good V.A too.

Without the original voice actors, the show is finished!

It wasn't hard for McFarlane to start a new show using the same ideas!

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/674841

LOS ANGELES–The Star has learned exclusively that the entire voice cast of Futurama has just signed a new contract with Fox after weeks of intense salary negotiations.

As late as last week, the network was threatening to replace the original voices of Matt Groening's cult-hit cartoon, to the point of actually announcing a casting call for voice actors to replace them.

The Futurama voice cast includes John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Billy West, Tress MacNeille and Katey Sagal.

The compromise agreement, with the studio paying more and the actors accepting less, comes after the announcement of a 26-episode pick-up here by Comedy Central. Futurama also airs internationally in syndication, has produced four bestselling straight-to-DVD movies (later cut into episodes) and an upcoming feature film.

"We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back. The call has already `gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters," Futurama creators Groening and David X. Cohen said in a joint statement.

I like Futurama, mainly because Bender rules, but also the fact that I loathe the Simpsons (die already :dozey:). I had no doubts that the original cast would be back, it was all a bit of hardball by both sides.

Futurama Recast Response - They Live!

So I was probably one of the many people who e-mailed complaints about the recasting of the show. Here is the response from David Cohen and Matt Groening.

Dear Futurama Fan,

Thank you for voicing your strong support for Futurama and the original
voice cast. We appreciate the time you took to fire off a thoughtful and/or
concerned and/or homicidal e-mail message to our casting director, Scott
Muller. (Rest assured, not a single one of these e-mails reached the actual
decision-makers at 20th Century Fox Television. For future reference,
please note that Scott Muller is in fact one of Futurama's biggest fans, and
was instrumental in bringing about the return of the cast. Please hoist a
bottle of Olde Fortran for Scott!)

Speaking of the cast returning... good news, everyone! The cast is
returning! All of our series regulars are back in action for Season 6.
Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille,
Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman are all on board and have already
begun delivering their customary virtuoso performances. The all-new
Futurama episodes are slated to air on Comedy Central beginning in June,
2010.

We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support for the series.
Your loyalty over the years has kept the show going through its original
four seasons on FOX, its subsequent reincarnations on Adult Swim and DVD,
and now its Bendiferous return to life on Comedy Central. See you in the
(near) future!

Sincerely,

David X. Cohen & Matt Groening
