Ok, my last thread kind of failed because I couldn't pinpoint the exact genre I was looking for.

Now, I've finally realized that I LOVE a good psychological thriller and would like some suggestions for other good ones.

I've already watched:

The Shining
Memento
Law Abiding Citizen(?)
Taxi Driver
Fatal Attraction
Shutter Island

That's all I could think off the top of my head.

You guys seem to always suggest some good movies so I'm excited to hear what you guys come up with!

The Classics:

Alfred Hitchcock - Vertigo, The Birds, Rear Window, and so on.
Stanley Kubrick - 2001, Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, and so on.
Coen Brothers - Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing, and so on.
Ingmar Bergman - The Seventh Seal
Billy Wilder - Sunset Boulevard
Milos Forman - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Andrei Tarkovsky - Solyaris
Alejandro Jodorowsky - Holy Mountain, El Topo

When I think of psychological thrillers, I think of really thought-provoking movies.

Add No Country For Old Men to that list

The Thing is a horror film but that's a bit of a headtrip as well. There is a finnish horror film called "Sauna" that's a real head-trip (and a good film) but it's a horror film not a thriller. Still has that psychological aspect to it though.

Match Point is another good one.

Thirst, a Korean film by Park Chan-wook is a great film about a priest that becomes a vampire.

Thirded No Country For Old Men.

Also Hitchcock.

Donnie Darko,
Secret Window
Mullholland Drive (though that might be more mind****)

One of my favourite movies, the Norwegian original Insomnia is a pretty haunting psychological probe into guilt. It's good. Not to be confused with Nolan's, whilst not strictly bad, is too American/Hollywood to be appreciated on the same level as this.

2001: A Space Odyssey, The Seventh Seal

Although I'm not sure I'd put either of them under the "psychological thriller" banner per se, I would recommend actually watching both of them, because they're cinematic masterpieces in their own right.

Panic Room isn't bad. I remember enjoying it.

Zodiac, one my favourite films of the last decade, Soooo underrated.
See, I liked this, but it really should be noted before going into it that it's based on an unsolved crime. If you go into this expecting a regular movie with a regular plot arc and a proper conclusion, you will be sorely disappointed and probably kind of bored towards the end. If anything the majority of the film is more of a character drama, rather than a true thriller. Still good though.

Having trouble thinking of any that haven't been mentioned...

Identity is pretty okay.

The Prestige contains some psychological elements, although that's more of a mystery I think.

The Vengeance movies can't be recommended enough (particular Mr. and Oldboy), regardless of how well they fit this description. :p

oh gawd so many suggestions i knew i could rely on you guys thanks!

...now my first problem..which one should i watch first?

Jacob's Ladder!

Just finished watching it. That was a mind****...really great movie.

Spoiler question:
So was all that a trip while he was "fighting for his life" before he died in nam or did any of that stuff actually happen to him?

Primal Fear. Probably my favorite of Edward Norton's performances.

Yeah, I think the elements of the movie that happen after the initial nam part were his struggle to accept death and let go. I like to think of Louis as guardian angel type figure trying to help him through the experience. Although, alternatively, I like to toy with the idea that he was given prophetic vision of the future while fighting for his life on the gurney and decided to let go rather than live through the torment.

Watch it again sometime - it gets better with repeated viewings :)

One Hour Photo

Robin Williams is absolutely riveting in this film.

NO ****ING WAY. Great god damn movie. REALLY PISSED ME OFF but freaking awesome. This is the exact type of movie that I love.

Anymore suggestions?

It's a good movie, but not realistic in the slightest.

They would all go to jail for a very long time for pulling stunts like that. Not to mention that it would be impossible to predict how a desperate man on the run would behave. he could've easily either got himself or others killed.

Exactly. The movie was complete shit. You only have to look at what the screenwriter has done since then to prove it.

Try Presumed Innocent with Harrison Ford.
