There you have it. Of course it's been on the cards for ages, but that doesn't make it less sad. Probably the best band of the British garage rock scene - one of the best bands in Britain for a fair while, come to that - at an end because Pete Doherty is a selfish dick.
I'm not saying heroin addiction is easy to break, but the help and support - emotionally and financially - he has received from his fellow band members, from family and fans. People he doesn't even know, people he's never met are supporting him and trying to help him, yet still he pretty much throws their efforts back in their faces. If you really want to quit heroin, with the amount of support he's received, you can. Clearly he doesn't want to, and he's on a downward spiral.
And when he does die of an overdose - which will probably be sooner rather than later - my sympathy for him will be very limited indeed.
He's been self-seeking, immature and tried so desperately to portray himself as some tragic f*cking hero when really he should have been pouring his efforts into kicking his addiction.
And his new band The Babyshambles aren't even that good. Killamangiro sounds like a sub-par Libertines song and they're notoriously disorganised live. Last night: http://nme.com/news/110874.htm
It's the end, and a sad day for British rock 'n' roll and for the other members of The Libertines.
