Gordon Freeman and super-natural powers.

Hypothetical question for you all.

Now, Gordon's humanity and fragility (using all he's got, even if it's only a crowbar) is the key to the allure of his character. He's the under-dog and uses whatever means he can to get the job done. Sometimes that means crow-bar, other times, advanced weaponary.

What if this happened: the Vortigaunts bestowed Gordon with some super natural ability, or Gordon was transplated into a host body of his own with new abilities?

This could only be for a short twenty minute sequence, for example. Gordon could be trying to get into another atmosphere, maybe the Combine homeworld, and needs a host body. So for his brief stint there, he has new powers.

Just a thought I had. Dismember it and insult it if you wish. :cheese:

Wasn't that what we called the blue gravity gun?

PS: Don't ever ask for an insult on an internet forum :cheese:

I suppose the blue gravity gun - which rocked - is similar to supernatural powers but not exactly.

You know, he'll probbably never get super-natural powers. I was thinking, being able to shoot flames out of his hands and other neat-o, way out powers but...maybe that just wouldn't fit into this universe.

A host body with new abilities would be interesting and I have faith in Valve that they'd ake the host body powers not too much out of left field.

:| :| ok heres the stuff... he goes to the combine homeworld and then the sun there gives him supernatural powers... for friggin's sake hes a human and wont get powers!

Okay, so this idea has been ABSOLUTLEY rejected.

I never said anything about a different sun giving him powers? What-the-slightly-related-to-Superman-bullish-are-you-on?

I just meant...host-body. 20 minute sequence. Extra powers.

"Oh, Mr.Freeman, please step into the chamber to begin the transcendence into your HOST BODY!"

I do not think
"what if" is the right question.
Present a scenario.
Anything can be made good or cool or fun in a game.

It's hard to make things good or cool or fun in a game. It's very easy to make them bad, uncool and dull - usually while thinking that they're good, cool and fun.

I was trying to point out the uselessness of asking such a question.

What if Gordon had super powers for a minute?

What if he didn't?

This is HL we are talking about so it's safe to assume nothing would be different than normal. This is why we need a scenario with which we can make determinations.

Gordon has been chosen as the person to unite the human and vortigaunt races, so the vorts give him their powers...that could work :p

Who is friggin?

And yeah, that's a horrifically dumb idea.

Maybe in some other game. But in HL2, no.

Yeah i agree, it would probably work in other games but i don't think it would fit into the Half-Life universe at all.

Realistically, I also have to say it's not HL-style. It just doesn't fit the style, and that's it. The whole series is about Gordon - as said - being the underdog, and doing his stuff through superior intellect, advanced weaponry, and getting help at exactly the right time, which might be arranged by the G-Man.

Help for example, from the vortigaunts in the form of a host body?

Or maybe it would work better if it were an accident using a teleporter where they switch bodies :O

I think that would lead to many hilarious situations. Gordon might have to learn how to use the vortessence in order to swap bodies again.
/ownadvice

Good ideas as they may be, it still wouldn't fit in with the type of game that hl is.

Gordon freeman has no powers

What makes us last is our HEV suit
WE ARE GORDON FREEMAN! we play him as we would!
He is seen as nothing but a savour
- He freed the vorts
- it was told that the one free man would return to destroy the comine *Freeman* by the vorts

Gordon always gets other types of help when he's in over his head. He gets to turn his enemies against each other, he gets the help of some extra tech (Combine turrets), or he just gets help in getting the hell out of where he is. And never is he given help that would make him uber.

The HEV suit is uber. Pockets that can hold dozens of guns and hundreds of rounds of ammo and nades is uber. Teleportation is uber. An army of rebels and aliens is uber. Health pickups and health stations are in such plentiful supply as to be uber. Sweet vehicles with unlimited fuel and ammo is uber.

Accidentally turning into a martian with next to zero motor function, no weaponry, and no HEV suit would not be uber. It would be on the verge of suck, yet in the realm of possibility and plausibility as it has happened to another character. Hell now would be the perfect time to do it.

Advisor Breen vs. Vortigaunt Freeman. It would be like having a blast to the past, but in the future. :O

I might be cool to see an HL spinoff where you play as a Vortigaunt, but for Gordon? No.

That's been done.
I think it was a secret or final mode in Azure Sheep or something.

I dont think or want Gordon to ever have powers, but a upgrade to the hazard suit thats possible and can be cool.
