What if instead of us saving the world we are accualty destroying it. See in HL 1 G-man manipulates us to destroy xen. Now that we are done with that, years later the combine have come to make order in the world. All xen aliens have been attacking and what not so the UN makes the combine to combat them. Its all going really well for them and when the G-man sees this he decides he needs someone to take out what is left of the worlds defences. Since you see everyone oppressed you automatically assume they are bad. While in reality they are just protecting themselves from dangerous aliens like antlions etc. One you awaken you destroy the combine, the G-man and his higher up's win and you are left with a feeling of disappointment and irony.

Gordon never destroyed Xen, just Nihilanth.
Apparently, the Vortigaunts actually appreciated it, since they're on you team now. :)

I do agree that Gordon is being tricked into helping the G-man though.
We just don't know if G-man's evil or not yet.

At the end of hl1 G-man says something like, "Thanks to you we have captured the border world of xen, nasty piece of work you managed." Those Alien salves could be clones or infact alien salves of the humans

Realy I never saw a huge ammount of manipulation going on by the G-man.. yes he goes keep tabs on you through the game but he never realy does anything to force you to go to Xen and kill Nihilanth. And I personaly do think the Vortegons are you allies not salves, if they had been working for the combine then yes id say they were probably slaves but as they are helping the resistance Im uncertain.

Doctor Mossman says in the E3 2004 vid that there able to use xen as a slingshot to transport anywhere now. So I guess that makes it even more unlikely that you will eventually visit Xen again. but when Gordon goes through the portal at the end of HL1, hes just stuck inbetween dimensions as time passes.. from then to HL2.. so essentially i suppose your being used / controlled right then and there.

so Im just getting this straight in my head... because hes between dimensions,, time is different for Gordon, which is why when he steps out, hes still young, like hes just come from black Mesa.. and the rest of the world has progressed some 40 years?

Its 5 years later I think but yes you apparently havent changed (which Eli
says to you in the clip) :) Im also pretty sure its been stated that you will never return to Xen in HL2 as alot of players didnt like it.

try 10 years......

and Doug lomabrdi said in an interview both the 10 years fact and that in HL2 you never leave earth.

you are either in C17 or around it.

Does anyone else get the impression that Eli's Vortigaunt pal in the new vid is either his assistant or his student?

yeah he was helping eli charge something up with his electric bolt.

and i hope we do get to visit black mesa...maybe just for a level or two....theyd probably keep that secret - and everyone would find it hella cool, so im sure theyve included it at some point...

Actually, it looked to me as though the bolt from the machine was charging the vortigaunt. :)
Maybe it's a replacement for those Xen health cubicles.

yeh and all those vorts upstairs when your going down in the lift, there all charging or doing something electricity related.

Friendly, mobile (And sorta cute, if you've got a mind like mine) batteries. Also, is it just my blurry video, or do the Vorts seem to be more well-fed-looking, now? Almost tubby, even...

I still think Eli's "assistant" is working on something/charging something for him... Eli says something along the lines of, "Okay, that's good. Keep it up.", to him...

Actually... Weird thought... Are they all "him"s?

Ooooo Vortigaunt pr0n!!

I actually think they might sling us off into another dimension... another Earth. The way they said "Gordon will not be leaving Earth" But Earth is definately still Earth in another dimension!

I thought Xen was cool I don't know what people were complaining about.

In an interview Gabe said "One side is wrong, the other is disastrously wrong" or something to that effect. The G-man also says "The right man in the wrong place" so not everything Gordon does is good that's for certain.

Well... "Wrong place" could just refer to a place or situation that's gone wrong...

The "Right man" could be the one who could set it to rights again...

That's the point of manipulation; you dojn't have to force people, you make them do it of their own free will...

Damn, I havne't seen this video yet...
