Anyone else experience this:

Steam finally got updated, but it just hangs when I try to download Counter Strike!?

actually mine says 765 minutes 34 seconds left before i can play. so it's downloading, just very very very slowly.

Right click and select "Update this game automatically". Wait for Steam to stop updating then try to play.

ok, so I did all that, and when I double click Half-Life or cs, the little
"Preparing to play half-life..."
window appears. And sits there. And uses 0% of my CPU. and has been there for a bout 10 minutes.

Dudes, i can only see ONE server!
The only filter i use is the game filter.... :-?
Does anyone know which ports to open?

steam is stupid...they are doing to much with it...its not jesus you know. Sure i have no problem with it replaceing won and such, but jklzxdhyfvnioajgh

I did that and it said "Preparing to play Counter-Strike" for over an hour... I was watching TV for a while and when I came back it was still exactly as I left it.
Though, it was still responsive... it hadn't frozen.

LOL i'm quoting that

Guys, you can't expect a program downloaded by millions of people within a 12 hour period to work 100% perfect. Give it a few days before you start complaining

What you should expect is that Valve would understand that they need a ton of bandwidth to handle the load and that they would get more servers up before they released the new Steam.

Im just trying to get steam to update so i can see ANY OF THE MENUS and its been sitting on my desktop saying steam - Updating for about half hour now. but its not moving an inch!

I followed the advice of someone else on here and re-downloaded the installer.

Now it is worse than it was before.
Now Steam locks up before I can even start downloading a game.
Now Steam doesn't know that I have HL installed on my hard-drive (I told the first installation to leave it alone) and it won't copy anything over.

Well... since I have nothing to lose seeing as nothing has downloaded yet after install #2... I might as well clean out the registry and re-install one more time.

BTW: Great animated gif.

Damn... well... it appears that everytime I reinstall it stops earlier.
Now I can't even update the Steam platform.
