...because its 3 oclock on sunday, and here in the UK, everything shuts at 4, by law (Well not exaclty, but for the most part)

I consider this to be a terrible state of affairs. I wish to purchase things after 4pm, I have no doubt that the retailers would liek to sell me things after 4pm, so who in the hell are the goverment to tell us we can't?

Oh and the arguments that it would force people to work sundays? Bullshit.

Anyway, discuss

Up until a couple months ago, where I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, nearly all retail stores were closed on Sunday - all day.

Then my store, a big grocery store, and its competitor, another big grocery store, started opening. Following specific guidelines such as square footage of the store and such. They had to block off some areas of the store to stay within the law.

Just a couple weeks ago they passed a law allowing everyone to open on Sunday. I think things have to close at 5 or something though.

So you think you've got it bad with things closing at 4:00, well...we had nothing retail open on Sundays for as long as I can remember until a few months ago, and even then it was limited. Though now it's full fledged Sunday shopping, but still things close at 5:00.

In Scotland everything can be open whenever they want. 24 hour Tescos are still open late on a Sunday.

It's well fking annoying, we're out of milk and bread and it's my turn to buy it :|

OneStop ahoy!! Hope they don't recognise me :E

Just had to run to Tesco to get some pasta. Only thing I ever need to buy after four is food.

I wish our places closed at 4. Then that would mean a lack of working on Sunday, which I wouldn't mind at all.

Make 'em open longer and the stores would probably stop giving us time and a half on Sundays!

D:

I don't work on Sundays and I usually do my shopping during that day instead since its my only time I have to, so I like having the stores around here open late on Sundays.

It could be worse - it could be France, where you're legally not allowed to work more than 35 hours a week.
Talk about government sticking its nose where it doesn't belong.

Hahaha, that is pretty freaking ridiculous. Of course, in the US, we have the opposite problem :/

Try Japan. They even have a word for "death from overwork". :D

I arrived at the supermarket at 4:05, but I sneaked in as someone was coming out, so I could purchase my things.

Stores here open from 14:00 to 20:00. On sundays of course.

My first thought; I hate you.

My second thought; how long were you?

My third thought; did you at least apologize to the clerks for being so late?

Asda is open 24/7 ... if I need anything, whenever, I just jump in the car and go down there. Once I needed to do an emergency format at like 3am, but had no blank CDs/DVDs so I went to asda and bought some. You'd be amazed at the number of weirdos that do their shopping at that time of night/morning.

Tis gods day of rest.
Isn't the sabbath on Saturday? He created the world in a week and on the last day of the week (Saturday) he rested. Stores close early here on Sunday as well. Wish they didn't. But I guess the employees like it.

Depends what you consider the last day of the week to be. In the UK, its generally considered the Sunday

*Edit - Which is all entirely irrelivent, as we should never be forced to do/not do anything for religious reasons
