I tried over clocking my cpu, at first: unsucessful, couldnt get any thing to start... reset bios and cmos... tried again, sucsessful WOOT! back up to speed... clicky counter strike :D .... wtf!!! D: Graphics all wacked out!? why be this!?!?! I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers... DirectX is 9.0c, did Direct3D and DirectDraw tests in DirectX Diagnostic Tool, all successful... I be very up set... a littel more info:

My graphics card is a nvidia GeForce 6200 8X 256Mb. running 91.31 forceware.

it was working just fine the other day... some more info:

I tried overclocking it the other day with a program called RivaTuner, I dont think it worked however becase the version i downloaded was way way out of date and didnt support my driver... however it is no longer in effect ( if it had any effect any way ). I would think if i had fried my gpu it would not work at all and i would be forced to use onboard, i am not, im still useing my graphics card and is working fine aside from wacked out 3D graphics...

some more info= when i play ( try to play ) any game, all 2D things such as HUD and menu text and graphics work, however all 3D aspects of the game all
all messed up and... I will return with some screenies! ... one sec.

well, u shouldn be overclocking the gpu by alot. increase it by 5-10 mhz for the core clock and 10-30 mhz for the memory clock.

i suggest using coolbits2. its a registry that unlocks the overclocking menu of the nvidia driver.

let us know ur stock speeds for core and memory clock, and the current overclocked speeds. those artifacts means that ur gpu is overclocked too much. make sure u have good cooling too.

When you were OCing your CPU, how did you do it?

When you restarted PC and BIOS wouldn't post and you reset CMOS, did you OC anything or you left CPU at stock speed?

Like hneaz told you; You don't have much room to OC GPU without causing damage to it, and most you can get out of it, is 10-20MHz, so leave it at its stock speed it is not worth it.
Take that card out and try it on different PC, just to satisfy whether the problem is the card or the PC.

Post back here.

Good Luck.

ok... i have gone trough some things and found that my gpu works fine when my cpu is at stock speed... however i know for a fact that my cpu used to be over clocked ( at 2.1GHz ) and running the same graphics card... I dont know why i would be haveing a problem with this now...

Is the AGP/PCI bus speed locked? If it isn't then it will also OC with the FSB and CPU which will make it unstable.

Well if your BIOS is locked and MB isn't designed to OC, you can not OC that system, like using third-party software and OCing it through OS.
The only safeway to OC system is through the BIOS, and your AGP/PCI/memory bus should be independent from your FSB, so you can set their speed accordingly.
If you're trying to OC that system through OS you have to know that you're headed for disaster and you can ruin stuff.

Please post your MB spec, so I can or some one else can tell you whether it's safe to OC or not.

Good Luck.

Im doing it through the bios, like I've said I've done it before with all the same hardware, then it got reset and im trying to do it again... i think im going to completely uninstall my gpu, run on board, over clock, reinstall gpu with old drivers at first... this was the order in which it was done before... however here are my specs... what you mean by MB im unsure of... oh mother board... right... one sec. now what did i do with that book... ha here it is... *poof- blows dust of ancient MB users manual *

Its an ABIT... VA series... my processor is an AMD Athlon(tm) XP stock clock speed is 1.6Ghz, had it over clocked at 2.1GHz.

I actually have it overclocked running at 2.1GHz right now... however anything higher then 1.6GHz makes the GPU freak out on me... i know it can be overclocked and it is... now i just need to get the GPU working with it... and i know it can becuase it has...

Well. If you have done it before, you need to get it stable.

Set your FSB/LTD multiplier (No Auto)
Set AGP Bus/volts (No Auto)
Set CPU Volts (No Auto)
memory bus/timing (No Auto)...Etcetera.

Just raising FSB and rebooting won't give you a stable system, and taking out the V-Card, OC CPU, and putting back the V-card will only take you back to square one, specially when you raised the CPU that high @2.1GHz. You're gonna have to deal with setting up (Increasing decreasing) lots of other stuff (Memory, AGP, Etc) will raise with FSB.
You also have to do Memtest86 before and whenever you OC CPU for a minimum of 10 passes. You also have to do Prime95 for minimum of 8hrs to know you have set a stable system.

So I would advice you to visit ABIT support forum, to figure out how to get it stable, at that high rate of CPU frequency. That's 500MHz you cranked the CPU, you're gonna have do, and read a whole lots of stuff to get it stable.

If it did before and everything was stable (Which I doubt), there must be something you overlooked, after you reset Cmos and all setting in Bios went back to Auto and their respective default settings.

This (I'm afraid) is something none of us can give you an opinion like this.

Trust me on that.

It takes me at least a month to do reading, trial and error just to get 400MHz on a Manchester.

Good Luck.

your probably right... however i had it running at 2.1GHz for over a year before it got reset and its still running... just slower.
