I can't get my joystick to work in BF2. I set the controls to the proper axes, but when I get in game, the helicopter rolls over on the ground and blows up. The throttle controls are messed up. The bottom of the throttle is throttle up, and the top is throttle down. (Should be the other way around) The X, Y, and Z axes don't even respond. This same thing happened in the demo, but I thought it would be fixed in the full version. Does anyone else have this problem? Does this game even support joysticks? I have a Saitek X-45 joystick, by the way.

Have you calibrated your joystick properly? I had the same problem in the demo but it was because I only just plugged it in and all the axes were screwed. If you haven't go to Control Panel>Game Controllers then properties of your Saitek.

Also, that's a nice joystick. How much did you pay for it?

? I just plugged mine in changed the axis in-game and it worked fine. there's no sensitivity settings like there is for the mouse so it takes awhile to get used to

I have a logictech ...I cant remember the name off hand but I paid $12 for it on sale

You should learn with keyboard and mouse first, its more difficult, then you can do easier things with the joystick

Got it for my birthday. \o/ Usually $80 on Amazon.
Disturbed, I can fly a helicopter. Ask RipperRoo.
EDIT: I did calibrate it, so I don't understand. :|

IMO, the best way to fly a helicopter is with the joystick and keyboard. The auto-hover with the keyboard throttle makes it amazingly easy to do anything, and the joystick is much easier to use if you want to flip over or anything like that.

Oh and to fix your problem, just flip the throttle controls so it is the way you want it, and then calibrate your joystick. I had the same problem.

I got it working, but flying helicopters with a joystick is too frustrating. I couldn't even fly straight, let alone land. I will stick with mouse and keyboard. However, I will fly jets with joystick.

Now jets I can do mouse with..just takes alot of throw/lift/return/repeat's of the mouse

It is almost impossible to do a barrel roll with a mouse.

Thats me with a helo No matter how much i fly it, i get skrewed hardcore everytime lol...but actually I kinda got the hover thing going...first time today! WOOHOO

Tell you, you should learn with keyboard and mouse, I've dog fought several other helicopter pilots with joysticks, they got pwned, badly.

Barrel roll in a jet or a helo? Because barrel rolling with a mouse on a jet is easy, especially if the sensitivity is high. I've never attempted barrel rolling a helo
