"Sherwin Raymond, a former physician and known gun enthusiast, has twice spent time in prison: in the early 1970s for performing illegal abortions and later that decade for selling silencer-equipped submachine guns. Convicted felons are not permitted to own guns."

Just goes to show you how well our gun control in the states is. I mean how long did it actually take the feds to find his huge weapons cache :P

We're not supposed to have gun control here, but felons ARE restricted from them. Felons can't vote either, etc. You lose those priveleges when you become a felon.

I hope they find the rule breaking gun dealers too. They pose a threat to the rest of us law abiding gun owners.

well i mean the people selling those guns should do backround checks on the people actaully buying the weapons. I do suppose though that it would be difficult to do so, and they might lose a sale

You have to by law. That's why whoever sold him these guns broke the law as it's illegal to sell to felons.

so do you think the police will arrest these people then?

Maybe he already owned them before becoming a felon.
I doubt it, I'm sure some of the guns were manufactured post 70's.

If they can find out who did it. He could've bought it at a gun show years ago from a dealer who's name he doesn't know. It'd be nearly impossible to find out who sold it then. But if they do find out they should.

what's the hell is a felcon (i know it's a bird, but what do you mean by it)?

Felon?

Felons are people who commit felonies. Felonies are serious crimes, such as rape, murder and other things, like performing illegal abortions. Felons lose a lot of their rights here in the US, because they broke other people's rights.

Falcons are birds.

;)

500 guns, though? Sweet.

What's it matter if he had all those guns? He's 82, what's he gonna do, rob a bank?

He spent it all on 500 guns lol.

He's going to take those 500 guns, and distribute them to his 499 old fogie friends, and they are going to rob banks, grociery stores, old folks homes, and Tractors.

well id imagine the tractor cant be going that fast in the first place

Wait, even after you've left prison, you're not allowed to vote, ever?

Only if you're a felon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felony (It explains the restrictions. I know you know what a felon is :P )
Thanks, that's rather interesting. I'm not sure quite how I feel because on the one hand, I see the motivation for such restrictions of basic civil liberties, but on the other I do feel that, once you have "repaid your debt to society," so to speak, you shouldn't be persecuted any further unless you reoffend, of course.

Well that's sort of their part in repaying. It's known and part of when they're sentenced, not really anything that was 'sprung' upon them following release from prison.

Personally I really don't want convicted murderers/rapists voting in things, or owning guns, etc.
