... and the name, alone, should make them second-guess the purchase. What kind of wholesome, family gameplay would you expect find in something called "Grand Theft Auto"?

I would be pretty upset if there was nudity in a game like Halo (maybe, but that is pushing it) but in a game like GTA wtf were you expecting? How can she not be upset the little Timmy is ****ing hookers and then beating them to death with a dildo and then drive away in his stolen car while running over old people and cops?

Tell that twat to shut her mouth before we break her hip with a gavel

Wow are people dumb

It's rated M, 17 and only up. She's a bad grandmother.

She will lose and it will make an actual case game makers can refer to in future court stuff, might end up helping.

its quite clearly rated M! forgodsake, If i was the judge id bring in a novelty sized maturity rating sticker and smack it on her zimmer.. stupid people, and yes I should think the judge will tell her to GTFO

Granny seeks to exploit the legal system, current affairs for own personal gain. People with common sense responded with "I'm appalled." Idiots praised motion, protecting her freedom and liberty against Rockstar terrorist communist scum. Burn them in their sleep!

This is not unlike that subhuman trog that tried to get money from Wendy's recently by saying she found a finger in her chili. Geez. People really are this dumb and greedy. If there's a way to f**k someone over for some money, then there will be some jerk ready to try it out, consequences be damned!

What lawyer in their right mind would ever take up such a case? Sure, you might get more exposure, but having your name mentioned in terms of "the idiot who tried to defend a woman who was damaged by a mature rated video game she bought for her clearly underage grandson" is not exactly worth it.

That's like buying cigarettes and liquor for your 14-year-old grandson and then saying, "Mr. Lawyer, I would like to sue Anheuser-Busch and Phillip Morris because I bought their products for my grandson and I am distraught to find out that they were apparently as harmful as the label states."

The difference between an AO(which is preposterous in this case IMHO) rating and an M rating has no bearing, due to the fact that this kid is too young to be doing anything with either. If anything, the grandmother should be charged with distributing pornographic(according to some loudmouth politicians) material to a minor! This case is going to go nowhere fast.

an american one of course, only in america :p

Har, har. Yes, we have our share of idiots(very vocal ones at that), but the world is full of them and incompetence doesn't stop at a country's border.

well see, she could have not worn her glasses and then..she..could...oh whatever, she is a loser for a grandmother (the kid might not think so) and she should be burned at the stake!! :E

I don't get it. At an "M" rating the game is only suitable for players 17 and older. At and "AO" rating the game is only suitable for players 18 and older. Now that parents know that the "sex" in the game can be "unlocked" by whatever, can't they just take the game away from their "kids" for a year until they are old enough to play? 365 days isn't that long to wait (assuming the parents bought the game with the rating in mind).

This granny didn't care about the rating when she bought the game, why should she care now?

wow what a retard, I wonder who's going to win this case :upstare:

The boy is 14 years old.. Hasn't he had sexual education or something like that? (I don't know what it's called in the US)
Real boobies = "So... You have reached puberty!"
Polygon boobies = "AAAAAA!!! MY POOR GRANDSON!! SUE SUE SUE!!!!"

wow the US is going down the shitter
could it be that the legal system kinda sucks?

Its just people trying to cash in on this. Is there really any surprise?

it's not a fad, it's not just a phase we're going through, it's not just people jumping on the bandwagon ...what we're witnessing here is the beginning of the end (not of our hobby, but rather how business is run in our industry) ...granny is just part of the snowball effect

OMG THE END IS NIGH! You're paranoid, stern.

It 'is' a fad. Its just like the other lawsuits that followed after the guy sued macdonalds.

I think you're a paranoid man, and the PM's we've shared only help solidify that belief(which by the way you couldn't recieve more, since your box is full).

I've made space

no, this is not paranoid delusions :upstare: ..if you had followed this from the beginning you'd understand

You keep making it seem like we're going to go to a dark age of gaming. Which, is totally bogus. You're speaking about the end of the world of gaming as we know it... which is silly. Its not gonna happen.

Aaaaaand that about wraps it up.
Honest to God, what exactly is her line of thinking that scenes of violence and crime are fine, but all of a sudden - oh dear! There's sexy-sex in it :O
I'm so BORED of this HotCoffee nonsense. Here's what to do: Give the game the new certificate - Adults ONly, is it? - move on with your lives. If I were a US citizen, I'd be very cross that my tax dollars were going towards such pointless "investigations" and to the salaries of offensively moronic politicians like that Thompson fool.

I would also go so far as to say that his equating The Sims 2 with paedophilia displays some alarmingly twisted logic. Not to mention outright lies, of course.

Grandmother attempts to buy videogame for grandchild; plan backfires
End of story, really.

Somebody scare this twit into having a heart attack.

Just let me remove my pants, and I'll go round and visit her.

How some cash-chasing old biddy can even get her case this far defies logic. She's an awful grandparent and I sincerely hope that her idiocy genes weren't passed on to her own children.

If anything we need to prosecute her for buying an 18-rated game for a minor (setting aside the HC mod debate for now) because you cannot blame the developer or retailler- they sold an adult game to an adult in good faith. It was reasonable of them to assume it was for a suitably mature relative or even herself (I like to think I'll still be gaming in my 70s and beyond).

Oh, and it's not that American is particularly stupid; It's just that america has fantastic media coverage.

just cos the movie is called 'gangbang 9' does not mean i thought i was buying a porno - i'm suing!

About time, they were a little slow on that one. Didn't they ban Manhunt?

Though, you foreigners are always banning one game or another... <chuckles>
