graphic break up

I just tried to play a deathmatch and noticed the thing seemed to be running a 1 fps, it was so jerky. I thought it was the server so I tried the same map offline. Still problems, the graphics are breaking up also (see attached pic). Its the same for all maps.

Short of a reinstall and ideas?

validate your hl2 and hl2dm files in : steam games>properties>local files>verify integrity of game cache.

Woah, looks real odd. As Samo said, validate your HL2DM files. (steam://validate/320)

If it's still jerky, download this :
Diskeeper
It's a defragmentation program. Windows Defrag isn't really good in defragmenting, so run this program a few times until the drive is as defragmented as it can get.
