Ok, I'm playing to upgrade my graphics card eventually (my fx 5200 is crap..***ns better than most due to my optimizations, but it doesnt change the fact that its crap) and i want to know wut i should buy. So can some one w/ a GeForce 6800 gt/ X800 pro or above run stress test on these settings: 1280*1024, high texture detail, high model detail, reflect all, trillinear, reflect all, high shader detail, high shadow detail, vsync disabled, dx. 9.0 bumpmapping on, specular on, and in DX 9.0 mode. Id also like to know ure specs, thx.

with my o/c 9800 pro, at 1280x1024, 2AA 2AF, i get a pretty solid 60/80 fps in CS:S. the only setting i have on low are water reflections.

2800+ XP (o/c to 2.2ghz)
1 gig o ram

threre is a forum for cs.
I believe that the performance with Cs sorce and HL2 will be very different

Yeah...i think i remember in the "info from valve thread" gabe or someone says that hl2 will perform better than cs:s

I ran a few tests for you. At your settings i achieved 94fps in the stress test, but with 2aa (all you need at this res imo) and 16af i scored 86fps. My specs are in my sig, and im running my gt at stock speeds using the 61.77 drivers. These cards overclock incredibly well, past ultra speeds quite often, but i haven't done so with mine yet.

On the other hand, if your only going to be playing directx based games i advise you get an ATi, because of their advantage here.

Here are some more benchmarks to help you make your mind :)

Edit: hey the post counts are back :dozey:

This is a very difficult question to answer. And there are ATI and Nvidia fanboys out there that does not make a discussion about it easier.

My opinion is that in the low-mid range the ATI 9800 (in different shapes and versions) is the obvious choice.

At the high-end it is impossible to say - both companies have very good cards! You will not go wrong with any of them.

(the following is without technical details - this is just my pro/con summary after having read alot about it this summer)

Nvidia 6800 chips: Better shader implementation, better openGL drivers, worse AA hardware modules, worse DirectX drivers

ATI 800 chips: Better AA hardware modules, better DirectX drivers, worse shader implementation, worse openGL drivers

What does that sum up to?

DirectX game with low to moderate amount of shades at high AA/AF -> ATI 800 beats Nvidia 6800 (CS:S, all old DirectX games).

OpenGL game with a large amount of shades at high AA/AF -> Nvidia beats ATI (Doom3).

DirectX game with high amount of shades at high AA/AF -> Dead heat (Half-life2?)

I bought a 6800 GT myself and is very happy. At the very high-end I would probably buy an 800XT. I would not buy a 800Pro since it has fewer pipes than the 6800GT at the same price level.

gfx: ati radeon 9800 pro ( with cooling ) 128 mb
p4C: 3.0ghz
motherboard : asus p4p800SE
ram: 512 kingston pc3200
all details on: 50-70 fps on all maps even witrh many players and explosions :)

check my sig.. tho i dont have CSS but will my graphic card work for it?

How do you overclock you're GFX card, and what dies it really do, can anything go wrong?

By the way - I get 86 FPS with everything maxed out in CS:S (1600*1200, 6*AA/16*AF).

AMD FX-53, 6800 GT, 1GB RAM

Ok Damnit Man, I Just Saw That Benchmark Thing, I Have A 3.2ghz P4 1gig Of Ram 9800xt 256mb, And With All Settings High, 1024x768 And No Aa And Af At Trilinear (lower Than Theres) I Dont Even Get As Much Fps As The 9800pro According To That, My Avg Fps In Office With Those Settings Is Like 35, I Always Drop Below 25, No Background Programs, And I Dont Know Where Or How To Get Just Drivers And Not A Control Center, Sorry For Caps Btw My Keyboard Is Messed Up Right Now, Im Not Screaming Or Angry Lol.
But Seriously How Do I Achieve Better Performance With My Card, I Made A Thread About This But The One Suggestion I Got Didnt Work, I Get 100 Fps In Stress Test (no Complaints There) But Wtf Is Up With My Performance, I Should Be Able To Have All Settings Way Up And Stay Above 30 Constantly, Im Upset Lol, Please Help I Thought This Was A Good Thread To Post This In.

P.s. I Have A Sb Live Sound Card And 5.1 Surround Sound, When I Set That In Cs:s The Sound Goes To Shit And Everything Is And Echo And It Sounds Like Someone Is Eating Chips Constantly Lol, How Do I Fix This.

Im Not Very Good With Computers, So I Need Links Lol, And Just A Basic Description Of What It Is Your Talking About (one Guy Told Me To Get Omega Drivers, Wtf Is Omega Drivers And Where Do I Get Em Lol Was My Question)

Lets just say I can use 6AA and 16 AF and still achieve a framerate well north of 60 fps. With a X800 Pro.
