Yeah a noob question but hell my first post and need to throw something up other than asking when the release date is.

I have an Alien 51M extreme with 3.4 pent and use a radeon 9700 pro 128 at moment and as the new nvidia 5700 with cineshade now available for upgrade on my lap top should I bother. Asking as Im getting comflicting reports about Nvidia and radeon performance issues that may occur with halflife2.

Any constructive advice be welcome

Wrong section, masterspy. This section is for HL2.net stuff..as in something to do with the website.
Try Software, Hardware & Troubleshooting.
This will be moved there, you'll see.

They say that the game is more friendly with Radeon cards but I wouldn't buy new for a laptop(??), 9700 runs it quite smooth.

My Biggy for initially posting on wrong page, but an Alienware Extreme fully loaded is not just a little laptop, just happens to the best gaming laptop EVER.

Just new graphics cards available ie Nvidia 5700 over my current alien radeon 9700 pro, was wondering which will run HL2 better.

Cheers Phoebus

I'd use the 9700 pro. But im an ATI guy.

The nVidia Geforce FX series was a great disaster. Those loyal to the nVidia name found that their 5900 was pretty rockin, so were willing to pay inordinate sums for that hardware, to be able to compete on the same stage as the massively powerful 9700 series.

Keep your current hardware, the 9700 pro will run the game (and others) much faster then the 5700, remember, just becuase it's new, doesn't mean it's better.

valve have already said that ATI is best suited for HL2, eventhough we can't trust that, cause ATI has a tie-up with valve.havn't u heard that HL2 is available for free with every ATI 9800Pro !!!!!!
