We all consider that hl2 has fantastic graphics i just want to make a comment that if u compare the graphics of hl1 from about 5 yrs ago to hl2 there is an amazing improvement.

anyway can anyone imagine what the graphics will be like in games and the quality of games in 5 or 8 yrs time.

its mind blowing!!!

This is kind of off topic but a long the same lines

I was reading an old Science magazine from the 1950's yesterday and it was talking about the year 2000 and what it would be like. One of the things it mentioned was that we would have Calculation machines about 1 metre cubed that would be able to make 1000's of calculations every minute. Of course we have computers that do millions and millions.

Halflife 2 is probably the closest thing so far to a game that i thought up in about 1993. I imagined this game where you would be able to drive vehicles, but be able to get in and out of them too. And you would have big maps and stuff. Obviously its way more advanced than i imagined, what i thought of was blocky and pretty textureless but a lot of the ideas are the same. Of course when i was talking about it to friends back then they said nothing like that would be along until like 2020.

We are reaching the peak of the current technology that we use at the moment. Silicon chips and such. Thats why they are developing Quantum and biological computers. Although the biological ones are being outdated before they are even being made, by the Qunatum ones. If someone built a quantum computer that wouldm be amazing. You would have the processing power of a house sized computer in something the size of a sugar cube. Now what games could they make to run on those? :bounce: :)

Anyway on topic a bit more. Imagining the games that will come out in a few years is pretty hard. I doubtr many people could have thought up Halflife 2. I know i never suspected it would be so good. Who knows what in development for release in 5 years time? Something that will Blow HL2 away no doubt. If someone from even the 80's were shown the technology we have they would probably die from a heart attack.
