I'm on a laptop (a Dell Inspiron 9100). I've been playing through the game just fine, up into the start of chapter two. Whenever I enter the laboratory and look at a certain angle, everything goes weird. If I turn around and look at a different angle everything's fine, but the errors occur within a pretty large range of vision. Here's what they look like:

I haven't gone any further in the game, so I can't say if the problem is just with the laboratory or not. My laptop's specs are:

Windows XP Pro
Intel P4 2.80 GHz
1 GB of RAM
ATI Mobility RADEON 9700

My video card has the latest drivers Dell offers, which are from August... I doubt they're optimized for HL2, though. (or anything at all for that matter -_-;) I've tried using both the highest possible AND the lowest possible video settings, even re-playing through the game up until that point, but nothing works. Any ideas?

i have the same problem. i did have it from the start of the game but i changed my target on the properties to

"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220 -dxlevel 90

not sure if this is any use to you at all but if it is its worth a try it made a big diff to mine up until the lab sceen but i think it goes all funny because of the long video with the whole teleport thing. i will be trying to fix the problem if i do i will let you know. hope you do the same

Hah, I can't believe I didn't notice this. I tried the setting you gave and didn't see any improvement, so I started playing around on my own. I eventually noticed that the angles that caused all the glitches were ones in which I could see the HEV suit. Whether it was actually viewable or not, i.e. behind a wall, if it was within my field of vision things started screwing up. On a hunch, I got into the suit, and guess what? Everything went back to normal.

So it's the HEV suit's model, or something related to it, that was causing all the trouble. The console wasn't registering any errors, though, so I can't imagine what could be wrong. You said you were getting these kind of problems even before the lab scene, so I don't know if this is helpful to you or not, but give it a try.
