Graphics card artefacts

I bought a new graphics card, a Galaxy Geforce 6600GT, and from the first time I booted the computer, the screen is covered with white blocks. I mean, every part of the boot sequence, from the POST to the Windows load screen to the Windows desktop. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers many times and turning hardware acceleration off and underclocking it within the advanced graphics properties. Nothing has fixed the problem.

The only way I can get the computer to boot without any artefacts is to turn on the computer, then at the POST screen press the power button to turn it off, then without letting the computer power down completely pushing the power button on again. Once I have the computer at the Windows desktop I can restart all I want and the artefacts stay gone, but as soon as I power down the computer, whether by shutting down or hibernating it, the next time I turn the computer on the artefacts will be back.

The only thing I have changed is the graphics card, my system was working fine before (I had an Asus Geforce FX 5900).

Can’t remember the details of the power supply but it was over 400W and I bought it from quietpc.com, so it’s not exactly a cheap piece of crap.

Make sure the fan is working on the GFX card. Also make sure your 4pin power plugs are not shorting the card.

Otherwise the card might have bad memory chips or something. Exercise that warrenty and return/RMA it.
