I don't know how... but it stopped working.

My radeon 9800 pro 128mb's fan stopped working, and when I realized this... there were all sorts of artifacts showing up on my screen. It was nasty to behold.

Touching the heatsink as I examined it, I burnt myself a little with a half a second contact. It got THAT hot.

How can I replace the fan... or better yet, how can I get a better heat sink for my radeon 9800 pro?

I have to keep the teamspeak server down until I can get this resolved, unfortunately.

Anybody used any of those, with reccomendations?

buy the artic silencer or the zalamn vf-7000 those will be your best

Dude... I'm installing a disgusting geforce 4 into my computer until I can fix this. ARGH.

EDIT: I'm thinking of this one.

I'm worried though about the people saying it killed their video card. I don't see too many options, however.
I wouldn't worry too much about that, becuase thousands of other people bought one and didn't bother to post becuase it worked fine.

Not sure if thats such a good idea to have those forums at places where you buy stuff, bad for buisiness I say.

EDIT: that is quite a bit of card-killing reputation, but like I said, the people that have a problem almost always post, the people that don't have any problems almost NEVER post.

Having honest reviews from customers, helps business I would think. Lets you know what things to stop carrying if people don't like it... and helps people like you and me who want an honest review from dozens or hundreds of people.

Wow don't buy that. There are A LOT of people saying it killed their card. It isn't worth the risk IMO find another brand.

They're a minority in comparison to the people that say it worked wonderfully.

There doesn't seem to be much choice out there in the price range I can afford...

so lets just hope it doesn't screw me over. And if it does, you can all pitch in to help me buy a new graphics card. Right? Right?

Guys?

Where'd you all go?

Well I have this thing installed, and its working so far... We'll see how it goes in time.

<prays to god that it doesn't fry>

that doesnt matter because no-one really cares what you say.

anyway, the only way it can bodge your card up is if YOU do something wrong. which i think you wouldnt do. its not hard!! make sure that the card isnt fried anyway! :P

i would just like to take this opportunity to point out the flawed nature of the 9800 pro. I myself had one, and i also had this problem. Card worked great for a while then the bastard got hot as hell and all screwed up. Not only has this happened to me but i have heard countless other accounts of the same problem throughout various forums on the internet. Also two of my friends had the exact same problem. 9800 Pro's are plagued with heat issues i dont care what anyone says.
