Hey everyone,

I have been a rabid half-life fan since the first game was released years ago, and I definately have to buy hl2. However, looking at the system requirements, the graphics cards specifications seemed kind of vague. I have a card which is compatible with DirectX 9, but to me, 64mb DDR (my card) still seems kind of low for a game like this. A friend of mine suggested I buy a 128mb AGP card w/Radeon 9800 Pro chip. Is this fast enough? Or would the geForce i have right now be good enough?

That card should work but if you have the money go for the new card. Right now i have a Evga 6800 Gt and this card should make HL2 look amazing, so if you want to experience hl2 in its full glory go for an new video card. A 9800 pro is a good card but i think the regular Geforce 6800 or 6600 Gt (both agp) are a better choice since both of them nearly cost as much as a good 9800 pro.

What video card you should use depends on how the rest of your system is configured. I'm running an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro w/ 128MB DDR, and I can run HL2 @ 1600x1200 w/ 4x Anti-Aliasing.

The closer your processor is to the minimum or recomended requirements, the more powerful a graphics card you'll need.

My Other Specs:

3.20 GHz P4 ; 1GB Dual-Channel DDR ; 160 & 200 GB SATA Drives

HL2 Steam Verison

Give us the rest of your system specs and we can give a decent answer to your question. Without knowing the other stuff, it is kind of hard to say... using a x800 XT-PE in a P4 1.5 would be kind of dumb, for instance. How much money do you have to spend?
