Hey,

I'm looking for a graphics card thats cheap but doesn;t totally suck :P

I currently have a Radeon x1900gt and it's buggy with my widescreen, it makes graphics in 3d games tear and spike, been trying to fix it for months, posted on here a while ago about it actually..

So I'm just looking to replace what I have, nothing too fancy or expensive.
Cheers:)

Cheers for your replies,
I don;t want anything too fancy, running xp and a meh cpu, so no direct x 10 etc as it wouldn't be worth it on my pc, just something to replace what I have that isn't any worse :)

well under ?50, ?30-40 preferably, and things like the orange box and stalker, :)

The 8600GT is slower than a 1900GT by a few FPS in most games but a few games do have the 8600gt pull ahead by quite a bit (Stalker). It's one of the only newer cards in your price range.

9600GT (faster) and 8800GS (slower) seem to be just out of your price range (?). Although they are a LOT faster than the 8600 or x1900.

8400 is a no no. Not really a games card at all. Just because it has the '8000' name doesn't mean its better than anything. In Doom3 (how old is that game?) it gets 30fps.I have an 8500GT in my media center PC and it accelerates HD video better than it plays game (choppy). No joke.

The 8600gt is seeming best choice at the moment, I'm not looking to upgrade, just to replace my buggy card with one that can do the same without the bugs :P

Cheers :)

I highly, highly recommend you consider saving for a bit longer just so you can have a card such as the 8800GT, which is around 100 pounds if you look in the right places. You won't regret it. If you spend money on a card that is already only just capable, you're gonna have to buy again before long. You will regret that.

Well these are my specs if anyone can find me a card, I don't think my pc is good enough to get the most out of the card.. the card I have used to be able to run things fine until my new screen :P

8600GT is probably the best choice for a card in your budget. Unless you were to go up the scale, I wouldn't pick a different one. Should work well with your setup.
Well, depends on his processor, really. An 8800 GT would be wasted unless he has a dual-core setup.
I don't think it would be a waste exactly. Sure you are not going to get the same frame rate as with a top of the line CPU but the improvement is still there for the most part.

Just look at the games and notice how much better a 8800 or 9600 card does on any CPU (low as 1.8GHz Core) compared with a 7950 and a high end CPU.
In COD4
109 fps with E2160 (1.8GHz) and 9600GT
43 fps with Q6600 (@3.2GHz) and 7950GT (same generation as X1900)

For that last one, you may want to check inside your case and make sure you have room for that beast of a heatsink.

That said, I'd say the HD 3650 looks nice, but I dont really know how well ATI's cards compare with Nvidia's anymore. Best to wait for another opinion.

Sea is right

256MB video ram is outdated. You'll regret that I'm sure.

Out of those the 8800GS is going to give you better FPS. Since you linked to it, I assume it's in your price range. This review shows an Asus 8800GS compared to the 3850 and other higher priced cards (9600gt/8800gt). The 8800GS in that review is a hair faster than the GS in your link (600 vs 550MHz). Wouldn't change the line-up between the cards in that review.

You can also see if there is any difference with memory because they have a 256MB and 512MB 8800GT in the review. Slow cards would show less difference between the memory sizes because a lot of times they are not fast enough to use the extra space to their benefit.

Cheers ^_^
I'll probably go for that one then and then I'll finally be able to play 3d games again.. c+c can only entertain me for so long..
