Just finally bought half life 2 and when I play it sometimes after a while, my video card shuts off. Monitor goes black and light on video card goes off. HL2 is the only game this happens with. Unreal Tourn 2004 and World of Warcraft work just fine. I reinstalled HL2 and still have the same problems.

I have AMD 64 3500+ Athlon, Antec 550 power supply, ASUS A8N-E Mobo, 2 GIGs of corsair memory, and a BFG 6800GT 256MB video card. All my drivers are updated so I know that isnt the issue.

Other than this very annoying problem the games looks and works great. Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

Could possibly be a graphics card problem. The source based games are very system intensive. It would be a good idea to check temperatures under load first.

Temps, and why the hell did you waste your money on 2 gbs of ram?

Maybe he's doing some modeling and renders for a professionnal studio in Hollywood. You didn't think about that did you?!

Temps are normal and I have more than enough cooling as well. And thanks for your concern about my finances holydeadpenguins, but I didnt waste my money on 2 gbs or ram. I use some very massive CAD programs, not to mention some web design on the side(photoshop, flash, fireworks, dreamweaver).
