i have an agp nvidia 6600gt but its starting to die a bit with constant overheating and stuff so i was thinking of making an upgrade but i'm a bit stuck for money. i've just had a look at an agp nvidia 7600gs and they're going for about 80 quid

seemed quite cheap for a 7 series nvidia card as the 7800 is over 150 quid. am i missing something here?

if its as good as it seems, i might go for it

any advice?

AGP is outdated technology and dx9 is soon to be outdated. Should work great for pretty much any game on the market right now, but its age will soon show. If you understand that risk and are ok with it then go for it. If you want something futureproof you might wanna look into a pci e dx10 card, tho that will end up being a much bigger upgrade than just a graphics card.

cheers. i won't be able to afford a new motherboard with pci-e capabilities and i'm not that into gaming as i used to be. i just want to be able to play some recentish games pretty well, i'm not looking for owt special

Or if that's a little over budget then see if you can get hold of a 7600GT agp for a decent price. Otherwise the X1950 pro agp would be a good choice.

Are there any AGP cards that will able to play future PC games like C&C 3, STALKER, supreme commander, etc?

Yes, but at how many frames per second?

cough cough X1950pro AGP cough

The X1950Pro is typically faster than the 7800gs and 7900gs. In some cases it can play some games faster than the 7900gt! (With the exception of such games as Prey, doom3 + Quake 4 by a tiny amount!)
