i got a new comp recently and it is pretty good 1gb ram 2.4ghz amd 64 athlon but it came with a crappy graphics card it runs some games pretty well like half life 2 but the newer games it slows down alot i need to know what kind of graphics card should i get i need a ok one that will runs most of the newer games normaly. i dont know much about graphics cards so i need a little help plz aND ALSO COULD YOU TELL ME HOW MUCH IT COST

Around 500 bucks could get you an ATI x1900xtx probably the best single card on the market. Or, if your looking to go a little cheaper a Nvidia 7900gt runs you about 300. Both very good cards, but if you have the cash go with the xt1900xtx.

Edit: Anywhere from 400 to 600 bucks could land you an ATI x1900xtx.

Are you buying online or in a store like BestBuy/Compusa?

You can get more for your money online if you don't mind waiting a few days.
What 250$ will get you at your Local Store BFG 7600GT (Great value. Will play all the games out today but you may have to lower a few settings on some games)
What 250$ will get you Online 7900GT (One of the fastest cards will play all the games out today with high quailty settings)

Or if you want to spend under 200$
eVGA 7600GT

u dont want to be buying a top end line, as that sytem will bottle neck it.

I for one would upgrade the ram Get another 1GB, update the sound card, buy a high powered well know PSU, something like TAGA 560W, also maybe a Raptor HD (not essential, but will improve performance) & then save up for a good GPU

i would go with the 7600gt and a better psu but i the one thats in your case now should be fine. also anothor gig of ram and new sound card is not needed.

thereare graphics cards for ALL budgets and users, the real question is for you.
how much do you want to spend on a graphics card? and what card do you have now?

if you want something mid range to play modern games at decent settings thena 6600gt or X700 or x1600 will be suitable. however, if you want a high end card then the expensive x1800s and 7900gts are what you want.

u mite aswell get another gigi of ram as this will future proof him.

A sound card will take the strain off the CPU.

& how do u know the PSU he has got isnt a standard one that comes with the case?? These are known to cause issues.

get a 7900 GT....its probably more than enough for what u have

calm down, a 7900gt isn't going to bottle neck on his 2.4ghz AMD64.....

2.4GHz AMD64 could be a 3400+, 3700+, 4000+, FX 53 or X2 4600+/4800+. They will not bottleneck the card.

An AMD 2400+ (2GHz) is a different story.

I love when people think they know what they are talking about and say "oh you should get 2gb of RAM" and not knowing how AMD64 chips work.

Listen to Asus.

My Specs

My Specs

Amd athlon 64 3800+
1.1 gigs
200gb hardrive
and my graphics is intergraded Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE (runs Half Life 2 on the highest settings pretty well)
Media Center Pc

ok, u need to tell us how much u wanna spend first, but like what Asus said, its either a 7600 gt or a 7900 gt. i would recommend a 7900 gt as it kicks major ass. my friend has it and it can run Fear at high settings. it costs $240 after rebates and can last u for a very long time.

mmm sounds like a HP 1430?

i thing i decided to go with the 7900 if it can run fear at high i think its worth it thanks everyone ohh last quetion is there anything else i need for an ok pc computer

b4 u buy this card, make sure ur power supply has at least 400 w and supports PCI- Express. i dun think u need anything else...unless u need a sound card for additional entertainment value....

If your going Nvidia, pick up a 7900gt for $250-$300 bucks.....
If your going ATI, pick up a X1800XT for around the same price......

i love it when u get a kid trying to talk down to u, then they get a smack in the teeth.

if you went on ebay a few hours ago you could of gotten a geforce 7900 OC (500mhz core 1500mhz Memory)pci-E brand new (even the box it comes in is brand new) for about $235 after shipping. ($25 shipping)
