Graphics corruption in HL2 games

Hey guys, this happens in all HL2 games with High textures enabled. I can't find an answer anywhere. It never happens in any other game (except SWAT 4) and I am completely stumped. It worked fine 3-4 months ago, and going back to the drivers I used then didn't help. I'm currently on the newest Catalysts (5.4?) and a Radeon 9600XT. Thanks.

Also, no overclocks anywhere.

The only thing I can really think of trying is turning down the Hardware Acceleration in your Display settings.
I had a very similar problem with Quake 3 until I did this.

But, I do think the last screenshot looks very cool, so unless it causes a bunch of slowdown I would leave it for a bit. I bet the Citadel levels would look cool like that :P

I haven't overclocked anything. I'll try lowering my accelleration, but I don't know why it would suddenly start doing this. Also, I just tried 3Dmark05, and it does it there, too (pure dx9). And HL2 doens't do it when I use the dx8.1 render path. You guys don't think its a hardware issue and I've got a bum card, do you?

EDIT: it still does it with lowered accelleration

Here is one I took from CS with all the details maxed out...

And here is one I took just barely over a month ago with the same exact settings....

There is nothing that I can think of that might have changed between then and now.

Could your card have overheated badly since then?

Heat can cause cards to get very, very sick.

I guess you can try and download dx9 again, I doubt that is the problem but its worth a shot.

I'm going to try a format next week (need to anyway before I go home and lose my broadband for the summer) and if it's still doing it I'll know its a problem with my card and just RMA it. I hear ATI is good about their RMAs... And no, My card hasn't sufferred any heat problems. I haven't had any lockups or anything, either. It just came out of the blue.

You can try validating, even though you never had the problem before, I'd recommend you try it anyways. Click HERE.

Yeah I already tried that, too, hoping it was just corrupted texture files, but it didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Has to be your video card then. Make sure it isn't overheating, etc.

I like that de_dust shot... I know that this doesn't help you in any way, but that dust screenshot looks sweet.

That's what I get (though not as bad) if my PC is getting too hot.

I was playing with all details on high the other day and I've just recently added an extra HDD so it's pretty hot in there anyway and I started getting artifacts like that.

If you download and install this program, go in game and get the graphics glitches on screen, then exit back to the desktop and check that program again, what temperatures does it show?

my friend used to have a computer where when he played Counterstrike 1.5 the textures would be rendered with purple spots on them. We called his card a "disco card" cuz of this effect, but it was pretty cool. Eventually he fixed it by installing WinXP.

I noticed when i maxed the resolution i had funny colours on my gfx.

Try toning the ingame resolution down to 1026*768

U Prolly already tried this but corruptions are most likely to happen when gfx is maxed out.

Could do with knowin your pc specs as well.
