someone please help, i have a GeForce FX 5600 and i am completely unhappy with the performance, i know that nvidia have some issues with directx9 and such, so i'm planning on switching to a Radeon, but i need help, i visited every review website but i just can't decide, i'm not planning on buying a X800 and neither a GeForce 6800, so, i have some problems on deciding wether a Radeon 9600, 9700 or a 9800, is there too much difference between the 9600 and the 9700? i'll get a 128mb one, cuz i know we don't need 256mb at this point. i saw the price ranges and i don't know if i might get a 9800, but between the 9600 and the 9700, what is better for the price? i chose ATI cuz i know nvidia is not that good at directx9 with their GeForce FX series, and i saw the reviews, ATI rulez on directx9, so please help me

Thanks in advance

Well, the 9600XT runs on 4 pipelines but it is clocked pretty high.
The 9700 and the 9800 are pretty similar except clock speeds. They both are 8 pipelines.
I would suggest a 9800pro unless you can find a referb 9700 for almost as low as a 9600XT.

thats what i would do (or should i say: have done). i too had an fx5600 and its performance on dx9 games was ***t tbh. ive read that the fx5600 makes hl2 unplayable, so i decided to save up. i got a powercolor radeon 9800pro for £128, as a future investment. u can go for the 9600xt as it will make hl2 gorgeous, but do yourself a favour and get a 9800pro or something like that (NOT NVIDIA AS THEY SUK ATM). ull be happy u did when you blast your way through city17, soaking up hl2's graphics and play the game the way valve intended it to :)...i know i will hehe.

hope this helps u m8. just shop around and im sure ull find a good deal.

remeber not to go for the 9600 (only choose the 9600xt if u want a 9600), and get the pro version of the 9800 (or 9800xt if you can afford it) :)

i think i'll get a 9800 pro, i heard the difference between this and the 9700 is like 50$

np m8 ;) definitely get the 9800 pro if the american price is that much difference (only $50 i mean cmon). ull be happier with it...i think the 9800 pro must be selling out all over the world atm lol.

yeh, i'm from Brazil, the difference might be a little higher here, but if i'm getting more performance than the 9700 than it's worth a try.

make sure you get the kind with a 256bit bus... so NOT the Shappire 9800 Atlantis!!!

The difference between the 9600 and 9700/9800 is HUGE. The 9600 is almost like one of the Geforce FX cards: High clock speeds but only 4 pipes and a 128-bit bus. The difference between the 9700 and 9800 isn't really that big, the 9800 is clocked a little higher and runs on a newer core, but the 9700 performs right behind it. But you should get the 9800 pro, best bang for the buck you can get. There's an MSI 9800 pro on newegg.com for just $195. I heard it runs on the R360 core or something like that so you can make it so it's recognized as a 9800xt.

yeh i just called the computer store and the guy told me he had a MSI radeon 9800pro 128mb 256bit for 300$ (keep in mind that i'm in Brazil and things are a little more expensive than in the US because of transportation and such) it's a fair price and lotsa performance! and also, he said he includes my geforce in the price! so ill just pay half the price!

Perfect you'll notice a HUGE difference the first time you use it. Now I'm not sure how but you can make it so it's recognized as a 9800xt. You don't have to overclock or do anything that may damage it, it may be from softmodded Omega drivers, anybody know?

Good call. I have a Radeon 9500 Pro. One of the best deals ever. Of course, now the 9800 Pros are running for about the same price. Doh!
