I know there's a thread on this somewhere here, but I don't know what it's called, and searching for things like "video glitch" didn't help. So please take a quick gander at the screen shots and direct me to the thread I need. Then feel free to close it. Thank you.

stupid question, but tried latest drivers? nvidias were out beginning of nov.

Well by your sig you have GF4chipset. Oh wait. nm, its and FXFX?

They are two different chipsets. One is the Geforce4 the other is the GeforceFX (instead of geforce 5, no we are at geforce6...)

ANyways, a 5600 isnt too bad. As you have probaby heard endlassly HL2 isn't nice with nvidia, but is even meaner with FX cards.

Let me give you a bit of background on Nvidia's FX series (by my name you might think this coming up is BS but it's not)

Nvidia sated when it was going to release it's FX series of cards that they were going to be the ubreness of the world. Not only that but every FX card would be 100 percent directX 9 compatible. Everyone thought WOW becasue well, the 5200 was pretty cheap. Fast forward to Half Life 2 testing in september 2003:The FX5900 is running HL2 on the dx9 codepath at around 20fps. WOAH NOW!!! This is a 500 dollar card we are talking about (well at that time). That is not acceptable. FX5200 was runing at 0.5fps. Oh boy. It turned out that Nvidia LIED to us, the public. The FX series were NOT dx9 compatible. Well not 100%. Not only that but it didnt support 24bit color, what HL2 runs at. So valve had to recode parts of the game into 16 bit (FX only supported 16 and 32 bit) where applicable. Also FX users are recommended to run HL2 at dx8 mode.

So. Now you know some background of your card. This may or not have been useful. But are you running HL2 in the dx8 codeapth? (I'm about to make a thread asking how.) If not i strongly urge you to do that as it would maybe help that problem you have.

Drivers probably dont have anything to do with this but down;load the latest ones anyway.

Next, are you overclcoking the memory? HAve you EVER IN YOUR LIFE overclocked the memory? What i see there is corruption, this normally happens when you overclock the memory (not the core). Are you?

If none of these things work, I cant help you.

Good Luck.

Well, now that you mention it, I wasn't using the latest drivers. Let me get back in there and see if that helps any.

No, I've never overclocked the card, but it did spend a couple weeks with a busted GPU fan, but I intentionally avoided anything graphics intensive during that period. Also, if it were massive video card issues, you'd think it would be more prevalent. That's the only thing in the entire game so far that's had any issues.

Oh, and my sig is a joke, since my system is amazingly middle-of-the-road, I'm not 100% sure of anything on there.

Thanks for the help.

Your sig is a joke?

Ummm....ok...

WTF are your real specs? You need to tell people your specs if you want help!!

go to start--->run--->[type]dxdiag

that opens up the direct x diagnostic tool thing. That gives you a lot of info about your PC. CPU, RAM, videocard is in a different section. On top there will be tabs click on the one that looks as if it would have anything to do with graphics stuff./ (i think it's 3rd)

Then tell us your specs. I mean jeez, how would we help you if you give us fake specs?!

I don't have a safe file nearby where this happened, so I wasn't able to quickly verify if it's still happening. I've played forward a bit more without finding anything.

I never gave you those specs, they're just chilling in my sig. My sig is a joke in that it's in terribly bad taste to brag about system specs in your sig. Also, all the "Deluxe" and "VS" stuff, while I tried to verify, could still turn out to be wrong. I think it should be "GeForce FX 5600" with no 4. My main driver is version number 6.14.0010.6693 from 10/29. dxdiag reports I'm running a A7N8X2.0.

Thanks for you help.

OK well then you can just look at my 1st post in this thread as it is talking bout the card you own.

Yeah, that's all interesting. I've actually loved this card because it's always performed better than it should.

hmm maybe its time your gfx card gave up the ghost , and move onto something like a radeaon , they own :D

teh 960XT own everyone!

EVERYTHING MAXED OUT!!!!!!!

30-40fps

The human brain only needs ~12fps to recognize fluid motion.
30-40fps = more than good enough

Funny thing is that I've got a 5200 and I got 30 FPS throughout most of the game.

How do you get your fps? I'll let you know how mine goes.
