Is is just me or is Gordon lobbing grenades from a non-existent grenade laucher on the bottom of his MP7 in the Demo-vid? This seems rather odd to me, unless of course Valve has programmed in a separate button for throwing grenades.

It's probably like an MP5, primary: Bullets. Secondary: Grenade.

What he means is that there's no tube that a grenade is coming out of.

I don't know enough about guns to answer the question authoritatively, but the MP7 does have two barrels. They're just the same size?

You are fighting against building-sized thingies with too long legs. That gun has to have 2 barrles(as mentioned) which are the same size and the nades are super-duber-hyper packed with firepower.

I noticed this as well. The PDW as seen in the game does have two barrels for some unexplained reason. It might be that the one in the E3 clips was just a placeholder for an unfinished OICW model instead? Although we've see the OICW at work in the teaser trailer (taking on the strider) and it lobbed the grens in a more realistic style.

Hmm, it's a bit odd that Valve would make both the Mp7 and OICW fire grenades... makes them a bit too similar, really. Of course, the OICW is a rifle, so it's going to be better by default, it doesn't really give the Mp7 any redeeming features, apart from its faster firing.

Well, you can only choose like 2 weapons in the full version of the game, so if given the choice of high ROF with the mp7 or long-range high power lower ROF with better nade power with the OICW, you could only choose one, that would add a strategic feeling to choosing weapons.

At the moment, you can carry all the weapons. Valve was toying with the idea of having one weapon per category, but they changed it back to the Half-Life way again.

I guess they are gonna cancel the OICW because MP7 already has a GL. Although in real life you can't put a GL on an MP7, unless it is custom made.

Don't read this if you don't want to. What the weapons above realy do.
The "MP7" (nobody from VALVe have EVER said that that gun is a MP7) has a grenade launcher as a secondary fire. The "OICW" has neither been confirmed for being a OICW, it's just the community that named it that. The secondary fire on that is a nightvision-scope.

Moppe, those guns may not have been called that by Valve but they are definitely based off them. Like the shotgun is a SPAS 12

We've seen in videos from a long time ago, that the OICW does indeed shoot grenades - the clip where Gordon was firing at the Strider (dunno if anyone else remembers it). However, that was a long time ago and they may have changed it completely now.

I hope valve doesnot cancel the OICW. It is much cooler than the PDW (remember the video where the granades are launched against the strider)

Yeah, but thats only in the beta. Valve would have had time to change it. Personally I think the OICW would be better as a GL. I know that makes the Mp7 redundant, but you could get it earlier in the game, plus it has a red-dot scope. I think the OICW is too bulky to just fire bullets.

Maybe the MP7 lobs 40mm grenades, and the OICW really fires the 20mm shells. Thus traveling at higher velocities and a lower arch, but doing less (splash) damage. In real life, the OICW doesn't lob nades.

Well if u look closely at the buggy/crane video, when he selects the weapon he is acctully selecting the crossbow, which makes me think all there weapons are a bit messed up at the moment, i personaly think its the OICW with the wrong model lol.

The OICW actually has a small under-barrel cannon, doesn't it?

As PvtRyan said, it fires 20mm shells, yeah. But from the footage we've seen, it appears to fire proper sized grenade projectiles. Hopefully they've changed it.

That explains how he can both zoom and fire grenades with the same weapon. Or have they included a third fire-mode?

Alright this is pretty confusing:

- Gordon blasts away some antlions with shotty
- Gordon switches to 'crossbow' and fires a few rounds and a grenade, he has 37 rounds left
- Gordon switches to shotty, and kills a combine soldier
- Gordon switches to MP7, this time with the right HUD icon, and he has 45 rounds left AND fires a grenade at the combine.

So it seems the OICW doesn't have a model yet, but the MP7 will be able to fire grenades too.

Pehaps they have copy pasted the OICW code to the MP7, and havnt finalised it yet, either way im sure the whole thing will work out different in the final build, I cant see valve honestly giving the MP7 (which is practicly a pistol its so small), a grenade launcher.

Wow, they have some large weapon-related bugs it seems.

Maybe they will, it's not like Valve is well known for sticking to reality. They'll change it if it adds to the gameplay. For example, the MP5/M4 of HL don't have 50 round clips either in real life. And the PDW now also has a 60 round mag, versus the 20/40 mag it has in real life.

Man, did anyone ever bother to read my post? It's not a big spoiler.

buttah... I've seen the mp#(5-7) shoot bullets and grenades AND i've seen it zoom (wich makes sense with the laser targeting thingy and all). So... tertiary fire button? huh?

no the zoom is built into the suit.

It does appear that they're changing the real life weapons abilities around a lot. 'Nade launchers on weapons that are only a foot or so long are pretty much a ridiculous concept. Sure you could do it with seriously tiny grenades but what's the point? There's a reason underslung grenade launchers are usually around the 40mm mark -- you can't pack enough explosive in to make it worthwhile otherwise.

Wonder if Valve are messing around with them to avoid having to pay royalties to the gun companies? -- ala Steam/Retail CS or NOLF with their renamed guns. Here's hoping they restrict the PDW to the proper short range burp-gun role and leave the heavy hitting to stuff like the OICW, rocket launcher and the multipurpose grenade gun (or IR gun as it appears to have been named).

Heheh... "Burp-gun".

I don't really care what they do, as long as they're fun to kill bad guys with...

but its doesnt really matter now...does it?
