GTA IV PC account linkage problem

I bought GTA IV in retail store, not through Steam. After installation of the game, I have registered an account in GTA IV social club, and registered in Windows Live ID. Yet, when I try to link the my GTA IV account to Live ID in social club, it says "A LIVE Gamertag was not found with the current Live ID." I cannot link my account to Windows Live ID, so I cannot play multiplayer. What can I do?

Probably just wait a while longer. The databases may not have updated yet. I'd try again tomorrow.

This may seem like a stupid question but are you sure you made a Games for Windows Live account or just a Windows Live ID (which is basically for Hotmail and MSN)?

Yeah thanks. I have just made a Games for Windows Live account. I have now successfully linked that account to my GTA social account. However, the Windows account has somehow brought me to my XBox 360 account, which I don't have Xbox. I am not sure whether I truly have a Windows Game account for PC, thought I am sure I have linked my Windows Live account to my GTA social account in the PC session. I still cannot take part in GTA multiplayer right now as it keeps calling me to register in Games for Windows Live.

When you first start up the game, does a little message pop up at the bottom saying that you've signed into your GfW Live account? If not, press the Home button on your keyboard and a dashboard should pop up -- try signing in there.
