Alrighty, just went out and picked up the GOTY edition of Guild Wars.
Anyone here play?... if so, any tips for a starting character?... or just tips in general?
Things to download?
etc.

I still have Guild Wars sitting around here somewhere. I dont remember much about it but I'll gladly play with you. Whats your name on it?

Lucius Azem, just made him... class is Elementalist.

I just bought me the GOTY editin too. Mines an E/Me

I sure hope this download/decompression thing won't happen every time I join the game... x.x

I was also thinking of joining up GW (Walmart has the GOTY edition for super-cheap!)

But my question is, are characters on there still competitive with the new classes in Factions and Nightfall? Any counters to the new skills?

I've not played the new expansions, sadly. And I've never done PVP...I've only gotten maybe 1/2 way through the game before giving up :(

Well, just played for a bit.

Seems like it could be fun, I'll probably play it on and off.

GW is great, I wish I had time to play nightfall some.

It's best if you can get yourself a group with a good mix of classes.

Yeah... this is beginning to feel as though it really isn't my kind of game.
Bah, I wish there could've been a demo or something.

Don't even know why I bought it, I really wanted to get Battle for Middle-Earth 2 tbh.

Ahhh give it time Lucid, play with some other folk like me, we'll make this game fun ;)

Not tonight, don't want to get into the game right before bed....maybe Thursday or Friday?

Thursday maybe.

Question, If I have no one to play with... how do I get AI controlled henchmen?

I now realize why I wasn't really enjoying the game before, I made a role-playing character.
PvP ftw!

Kay, I've decided to give the game another go.

If anybody wants to play get me on xfire some time tomorrow!

not sure I'll be able to play, got a really busy week. But my IGN is Raxxius Maelstrom, hit me a PM and I'll come along.

Yeah, I'm busy today mostly, so that's not going to happen. :(

But to get AI Henchmen, what you do is select them, then over on your group selection screen thingy on the right, click the + button. *I think..it's been a while since I've played.*

I found GW so confusing at first. People's id's made NO sense, chatting seemed hard (im not exactly stupid here), combat was..laughable sometimes and there seemed to be no goals in it. Hell, even getting new gear seemed hard.

Then i realised it was PVP based..mhaha. Still havent played it in ages though..

chatting seemed hard? it's a text box system...

Don't ruin the poor boys fun. He's 'special'.

Anyway, I've not once played PvP...it scares me. I've actually never PvP'd in ANY game. D;

Missing out, PvPing in GW is really fun.

Almost as fast-paced as an FPS.

I mean, I've obviously pvp'd a bit since at the start of the game you have to go through that little bit of pvpness...but I just can't get all the skills and everything to actually pvp..I'll just suck!

PVP is full of rude, arrogant, elitist infants and lots of waiting around. PVE is much more fun, especially the first game. That game map is HUGE, and spontanious pick up groups are usually much more tolerant of other players so you get to enjoy it more than the bitching and bickering of PVP. In my experience, anyway.

the third chapter introduced Heros (Customisable henchmen)

Makes heroway much easier than Henchway.

I am considering buying "Prophecies" some time this week. Are people still playing? Has there been any major updates after Sorrow's Furnace? Is it too late and should I just wait for GW2?

Thoughts please.

All of the expansions are still played pretty heavily, there's thousands on at any given time.

GW2 won't be coming out for quite awhile, wouldn't hurt to get into GW again.

I'd say it's never too late

and prophecies has the best PvE environment. It's a lot slower and better paced than the rest.

I got bored quickly, but tried to give it a chance. Having played WoW previously, the game seemed very limiting and uninteresting. It has a lot of interesting ideas that would be nice to integrate into other MMOs, but overall I mostly fell asleep and felt I was playing something inferior.

I want the expansions, but I can't afford it...

who's selling theirs? :p

Truth. It is the backbone of all the episodes and essential for maximum funness, as well as being the biggest and most absorbing. Kept me busy for months. I still go back to Tyria to help noobs now and then when i'm not assing about on the nightfall map.

Last week I remembered that I still had a bunch of old characters that I made over a year old and went in to see if I had any birthday gifts... BAM, 4 new minipets in one go :D Jade Armour, Charr Shaman, Hydra and Necrid Horseman. Off to the bank I go.

Anyone who thinks this game isn't worth playing is a mental, god says so. It's huge, it's fun, it looks great, it's polished, it's updating with new stuff all the time, it's FREE.

Seconded. It felt like I had slipped into a smaller suit. And it was chaffing.

I'm sure if I hadn't come across WoW first, I would have liked it.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna take the plunge maybe Friday (no classes, hehe).

Didn't we have a [HL2.net] guild too?

I'm not a WOW player and I do own a copy of GW, didn't seem too interesting but at least I didn't come across too many wankers in the few months I played.
