The company also confirmed that the game would be getting two new controllers--a Gibson Les Paul guitar model for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii consoles, and a Gibson Kramer guitar for the PlayStation 2. Both controllers will be wireless.

Paint it Black? Yes.

The new game will also get a host of new features, including a "multiplayer action-inspired battle mode," and authentic rock venues. An expanded online multiplayer mode will allow gamers to compete with other guitar heroes worldwide.

RedOctane's head of publishing, Dusty Welch, said that the team had listened to fans' requests for this edition of the game. He commented, "Many of the top bands and songs we've tried to get in the past are now on board, and we've definitely got some giant aces in the hole to say the least."

Guitar Hero III is due for release on the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii this "fall." It will be the first full-fledged entry in the series to be developed by Activision's in-house studio Neversoft--the first two Guitar Hero games were made by Harmonix.

Sounds awesome to me.

Sounds awesome.

Also, nothing against Tool, but they don't exactly have the most intricate guitar parts out there.

Tool deserves a spot on GH3 as much as any rap song does...I love Tool, but they aren't a Guitar Hero type band.

Bad^Hat: Neither does Nirvana.

Besides which, Schism would be the perfect Tool song for GH3. The bass is actually worth a damn and it's fun to play, though it'd actually be more difficult to play after making the transition from guitar to Guitar Hero guitar.

Well, I wasn't thinking of it in terms of how complicated the parts were, more of how interesting they'd be to play. Tool has alot of repetitive patterns, coupled with long songs, and slow and ambient parts in the place of solos alot of the time.

That said, now I listen to it, Schism would be pretty fun :D

Personally I'd like to see a Dream Theater track in there. One of the shorter and more-rock-less-prog ones. Pretty much anything off Awake and Image and Words would be pure Guitar Hero material, and you couldn't argue with the difficulty ^_^

Yay, cherub rock, one of my favorite songs of all time :D

I'm so happy there is a wii version, now I can own the game instead of playing it at others houses.

It's too bad the song list is too North American based. Europe and the surrounding areas have some amazing bands.

You'd think they would have already, too. I concur.

I'll wait for the release of Cow Bell Hero for that :D

Have no doubt I'd be first in line for that.

You beat me to the punch line.

Needs more Rage Against The Machine.

Wheres Mettalica and Led Zeppeline?

In their minds when they decide they want us to break our fingers whilst playing the game. "Hehehe, lets put One on there, and see how many more people that have Guitar Hero Fingers over the Wii Elbow.

I wish they would throw some damn Blue Oyster Cult in here.

^^^ Truth. I want Godzilla.

Anyway, Paint it Black is almost enough of a reason for me to buy it right there. If they put some more Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin in then I'm sold.

godzilla was in guitar hero 1 :|

Awesome. I've only played GH2 and I wasn't overly impressed with the song list.

Bwahahaha and Weezer does?

You are right though. They aren't that complicated for the most part, and I can imagine it would get pretty monotonous. Some of their songs would be great for it (like Schism, as you said).

Overall the lineup of songs is pretty awesome. I'll probably get this for my Wii.

You mean as I said :p

Also, Parabola might be a good one too.

And to stay on topic: I'd just like to say I don't like the Guitar Hero song list very much, across all three games. Mostly out of personal preference, because I do like music that isn't metal or written before the 90s. In fact, I hate it. I hate having to play Nirvana and Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, because all that music just bores the shit out of me. I liked playing Foo Fighters and Incubus though.

Metallica won't let them use their songs.

Assholes!

Can already play Knights of Cydonia on the proper guitar lol. Some good song lineups there though.

Hahahaha - Tool.

Yeah, Knights of Cydonia is pretty easy on a real geetar.

They should add Cassandra Geminni from The Mars Volta. The full 35 minutes on Expert would probably kill a man.

Wheres Tool? Nine Inch Nails? Marliyn Manson? Come on, people!

I'd like some Dream Theatre, please. I'm actually not a fan, as my prog leanings are more Spock's Beard/Gentle Giant/Transatlantic, but it'd be refresting to have a song that had a bunch of meter changes. So far the weirdest they've gotten was 7/4 sections in Them Bones and Tattooed Love Boys. One of the unused songs in GH1, Trippolete, was completely in 7/8. If I remember, either Carry Me Home or Laid to Rest had interesting stuff too.

But so far there's been nothing where you'd have to count 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2- 1-2-3-4-1-2-1-2-3-1-2- 1-2-3-1-2-3-4 type stuff.

Dance of Eternity would VERY difficult. It has so many time changes.

Just listened to it. It actually wouldn't be too hard in Guitar Hero, since the rhythm is just pretty much constant 8th notes in the fast parts. If you can handle a stream of notes at that speed, in patterns even, not random, it shouldn't be too bad.

Now, if they sprinkled 16ths, 16th note triplets, quarter notes or 8th rests in there, it'd get harder. I think that, as is, it would be fine in Guitar Hero, at least at the Hard and Expert levels. Since what makes the song hard is the meter and not the number of notes, it'd be hard to make Easy and Medium versions that to have to play in career mode. Maybe it could be in a final set that's only on Hard and Expert, or an special set outside of career mode. It wouldn't feel right as a bonus track, since they're usually by smaller artists.

Of course, playing it in real life, from memory, would still be a bitch. Especially for the drummer. Anyone makes a mistake and it'll be a trainwreck.

Who thinks they should throw in some Paul Simon?
A little Kodachrome wouldn't hurt.
