In an announcement that may just usurp the throne from Electronic Arts as the king of milking franchises, Activision has announced plans for a new Guitar Hero title, casting aside the franchise's reputation for offering a wide breadth of rocking tracks in favor of highlighting a single band -- Aerosmith. The news echoes comments made by guitarist Joe Perry last year regarding the series' next installment, at which time he said that the next Guitar Hero game would be dedicated to the band's music.

dont think this is going to be a hit

meh if they only include songs before they became gay it should alright ..but seriously they're wash ups that may appeal to a certain segment of those over the age of 50 but it's a niche market at best

I don't wanna close my eyeeeeeeessss, I don't wanna falllll asleeeeep...

god that song is putrid, I'll takes take toys in the attack anyday

Yes, yes it is. I remember when I couldn't turn on the radio without hearing it at least once an hour any given rock station. This is a horrible idea for a new GH.

Don't know what I'm gonna do
About this feeling inside
Yes it's true - Loneliness took me for a ride
Without your love - I'm nothing but a begger
Without your love - a dog without a bone
What can I do I'm sleeping in this bed alone

/drinks bottle of drano

I quite like them, but I agree this will not do well.

Sorry but I wouldn't want a one-band only guitar hero even if it was my personal favorite band (System of a Down.) System of a down has a lot more entertaining songs than Aerosmith, especially to play in guitar hero, but I still wouldn't wanna see that. This whole game is going to be made of fail. At least I get a free Dream On power ballad for my my current GH3 tomorrow. :|

Christ, I'm not even a fan of most rock music but couldn't they have done a better band? I can't even think of any Aerosmith that makes me want to go out and play it on a mock guitar. Why not Iron Maiden, the acclaimed ''riff gods''? I'm not a fan but **** I have fun playing their songs on Guitar Hero.

But then, I'm also the guy that, when with friends progressing in stages in GH, bagsies (calls dibs, to you Americans) on all the songs like John the Fisherman, or Killing in the Name. But still, as it comes to teenagers, who is really that into Aerosmith as opposed to the 'Paranoid' t-shirt wearing Sabbath fan? I can't even begin to think why they of all bands are going to appeal to a large audience.

I wouldn't mind playing Walk this Way, or Love in an Elevator, but playing them is more of acknowledgement to the actual song, as in it's something you actually know. But if there was an entire game devoted to the game then theres going to be stuff on there that people won't of heard of, and if you ask me, from my own exp. in GH, I haven't the effort to be playing songs I don't know.

Continue with the original GH concept, and stick with well known songs that everyone knows.

I couldn't name too many other bands that people would recognise more than 5 songs of, other than Aerosmith. The Beatles will never appear in a game like this, maybe Led Zeppelin or GnR could appeal.

Any music listener should easily recognise at least 7 Aerosmith songs, even if they don't know the name of it, then there might be a few more they've heard in ads etc.

Aerosmith are the 2nd biggest selling American band, 2nd only to the The Eagles.

Their Greatest Hits (generally albums bought by those who never listen to them) is the bestselling GHits album for a rock band ever. Sold more than Nirvana's Nevermind I think, and only a few mil less than Metallica's black album.

I'm sure they'll appeal to a large enough audience... And no, I'm not a fanboy. I don't even own any of their albums. ;)

This is a terrible, terrible idea. Not that I've ever bought Guitar Hero, but this is as good a reason as any to not invest in the franchise.

Numbers, best sellings, greatest hits... none of that will ever account to how many youths would rather play Led Zeppelin or GNR songs. Maybe that's just from my perspective, where I don't usually see people walking around in Aerosmith t-shirts as much as I do see GNR shirts, or hear them hear there and everywhere at clubs and on the PA's at concerts. And even outside of my social life, on the internet, on gaming forums, it's never apparant that people really care that much about them. Not anymore, anyway.

It's hard to explain but if they were to announce there was going to be a GNR stand-alone GH I could sort of understand where they were going. I say sort of because I still think that dedicating the entire game to one band is silly, but still.

Although I'll gladly take a game that makes you relentlessly mash buttons to the sound of Aphex Twin any day, haha.

If it was an expansion-pack type thing, that'd be ok, but as a whole game? that seems wrong :/

I've got a better idea then Aerosmith (not that I've got anything against them, I got like 2 albums of theirs) -- RUSH!

They kick ass, they've got better songs.. Hell 2112 is 20 minutes. That'd be a sweet ass last song.

RUSH RUSH RUSH!!

Can I hear a HELL YES!?!

Sorry but, regardless of my feelings on the band (actually a fan), System of a Down would be the most mind-numbingly boring choice for a Guitar Hero band. I can think of maybe two songs that aren't Daron just thrashing out power chords or doing repetitive picking, and even those are pretty monotonous.

This, except for Rock Band.

I'd be down for a Tool version of Rock Band.

Schism, The Patient, Parabola, Lateralus... The drumming on Reflection alone would be worth it.

You're not seeing the real news here:

This will be the first Guitar Hero game not for PS2.

EDIT: Whoops, it is.
