Gun cleaning...

I'm sure when the game was first revealed Valve talked about gun cleaning. You'd have to use the mouse to manipulate the tools used to clean the guns etc.
Is this still in? I havn't heard about it since.

It'd be just about the most pointless un-fun "design decision" ever implemented.
 
if my machine gun jammed while i was surrounded by vicious combine i think i would kill my self....
 
I think he's referring to my action based total HL2 conversion mod, named the Gun Cleaning Mod (GCM for short). In my mod, you take weapons and, well, clean them. It requires a certain amount of skill to master the cleaning of a weapon, and as you progress through the game you actually clean more advanced and larger weapons. There's even a multiplayer feature, where you race to finish cleaning your weapon first.

Oh, and there will be an end boss. Just wait and see, I know you're all excited.
 
the only games i can think of that would have gun cleaning in would be either AA or OF, and that would just be lame,
 
Even in America's Army(which is a freakig SIM) if your gun gets jammed you just press a button and your character cleans it within a few second automaticly. On the other hand HL2 is the farthest thing you can imagine from a sim.

That was apparently a fan rumor surfacing in April and has since been denied by Valve.

I hate gun cleaning. I had to do it in the army and the weapon oil burns on the skin. I HATE IT. Simulating this crap work is the most unfunny idea ever!

i mean i wouldn't like the gun cleaning thing! maybe a mod thing but hl team shouldn't do that officaily naaa
 
Someone wrote a fake article which stated that there would be gun cleaning in HL2 and there would be some SOF 2 similar damage system etc back in June or something. So, no there is no gun cleaning in HL2.
 
Whats interesting though is how u can share ur guns and ammo with friendly charectors... Like in "The Thing"
 
something else pops out if you rub the trigger, but you have to be looking down the barrel to see it

yes

cause there will be some tactics involved. where you have to choose what weapons to give to your allies and what you will be left with.

also maybe tell them some orders.

it will be so cool.
 
Hey, what if Half Life 3 had completely physics weapons? Instead of the gun just firing, you simulate the gunpowder, the firing pin, etc. I'm not sure if there's any point to that, I just thought it was an interesting idea :)

Well if HL3 comes out five years after HL2, i'm pretty sure that we'd have computer capable of doing such a thing, but it would be extremely complex and programming it would take quite a while.

And another thing, I think that weapons jamming in HL2 wouldn't be that bad of an idea. It would most certainly make some situations very very interesting.
 
Why would you want to? Way too much going on that wouldn't make that much of a difference. LOTS of un-necessary CPU-usage.
 
perhaps a whole mr. repairman toolkit will be included! That soda machine needs fixin'....and a bit of WD40 on that heliheadchopper and it wouldn't squeek nearly as much.
 
i remember about 1 month before hl2 was announced a supposidly "real" article about hl2 was released, it mention how good hl2 looked and that you had to clean your guns. i think that where he got that from.
