Hi all,
I just recently started a team for this fundraising walk, and I'm wondering if any of you would like to make a donation. All proceeds go to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America which is researching for better treatments and most of all, a cure.
It's been a year and a half since I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic inflammation of the colon (large intestine). The cause of the disease is unknown. Ulcerative Colitis is known as an anti-immune disease, because the inflammation is caused by the immune system attacking itself in the colon area.
I didn't think that it would make such a big impact in my life. I've had to greatly alter my diet to avoid pain and bleeding. I don't have red meat, carbonated drinks, pizza, food with high fiber, and some fruits and vegetables. Ulcerative Colitis gives me many urgencies to go to the bathroom daily. Almost everytime I sense these urgencies, I have to definitely make a bowel movement- no holding whatsoever. Being far away from a bathroom can lead to some embarassing and painful consequences, so I try to take as many measures as possible to prevent such a thing from happening. One of my gastroenterologists offered the possibility of removing the colon one summer ago, but his only reason was that I wouldn't miss any school; I could still most definitely achieve remission in my colon through healthy living, so surgery was simply not an option.
It has changed my life, but I believe it's all for the best. I've become more aware of my own health, so I've become healthier overall. I've become aware that many people share the same or a similar diseases with me. I've become more pro-active in the things that I do. I've been enabled to be more in touch with my own emotions, and therefore allowing me to reach out to others easier. It has basically molded me into the person I am today, and I am very thankful for that, because I like who I am.
Donations of any kind would be wonderful. All proceeds go to the Crohn's & Colitis Center of America. The website disclosed below allows you to make a donation through a secure transaction. My goal is simply $200, but it would be awesome if I greatly exceeded that.
Here is my team's page on the official website.
Thanks for taking time to read this.
