H.L2 considered "Vaporware"...

Why do you guys always bring up D³ when talking about delays? D³ was NEVER delayed, EVER. A release date was NEVER given, EVER. Id software invented the "when it's done" thing, they don't even give dates unless the game is gold. Activision gave vague estimations like "winter 2003" a year in advance, those aren't release dates.

And D³ in no way compares to hl2 when it comes to delays. hl2 was promised for Spet30, and then silence. Not a single statement on the progress of the game until like 3 or 4 days until it was supposed to be out(if i remember correctly), when Valve finally admitted to the community that it wouldn't make it. And since then? More silence. Nothing. hl2 more than qualifies as vaporware. Id is much better at handeling this sort of thing, and D³ in no way compares to the blunders of hl2. Valve is terrible with releasing things. Look at hl1, I wouldn't be surprised at all if hl2 winds up being delayed as long.

Look at the binks we were promised. They promised one per day, then the release was delayed for like a week. then when they finally did start coming out it was one every 4 days if we were lucky, and sometimes it was more than a week inbetween releases. And where the hell is this latest batch that was promised months ago? Never showed and as far as I know they were never even mentioned again by Valve since then.

It's very rediculous.
 
the only reason people mention D3 is cause it was announced in 2001... but there, 3 years in the future, no official date... unless it releases in march like said... it's gonna become duke nuke 'em 4ever.
 
Announced in 2001 because id didn't keep it a secrete like valve. They let the fans know whats going on with their game. D³ was announced not long after they officially began working on it. And they don't give dates. I fail to see how this makes D³ remotely comparable to DNF.
 
DNF is supposedly going to make a 2005 release. Announce in 1997 I believe, it's been in development for 8 damn years.

Neither HL2 or D3 can match that delayness. ;) Or I hope not...

Considering that Duke3d and HalfLife are some of my favourite games that doesn't seem that bad.... though they are really, really different..
 
HL2 vaporware? We've only known for 9 months it even existed! And it was delayed a total of 1 time! Wow, if that isn't vaporware than I'm an idiot! :sleep:
TF2 is a suitable candidate, so is CS:CZ, but HL2? No, bullshit. Valve giving us no info on the current status of it, is just to avoid false hopes after the 09/30 delay. They won't give us anymore dates they can't make.

Why should Valve have let us known they were working on HL2 back in 1999? I'd hate to wait 5 years for a game, now it was a pleasant surprise when HL2 was announced in March.
 
The award was stolen from DNF!! Absolutely stolen!!

There hasn't been an awards related fiasco this bad...since...Shakespeare in Love defeated Saving Private Ryan for best picture at the Oscars.

What a disgrace that was!!

I would agree that it was a nice little surprise popping up with the information that HL2 was in production. And i dont know why people assume Doom 3 is vapourware. I think because of the beta, people assume it was delayed or something.
 
I don't think HL2 should be called vaporware just for beeing delayed... CZ should be, because it has NO clear release date at all, and it has been re made a dozen times already.
 
How the hell does this count as a Rumor or Speculation.
If anything it's a dicussion about the definiton of vapourware.
