Hair dyes !! boys and girls , plz help !!

I'm going to dye my hair, but not in the the salon, cuz it's too expensive. I want to do it myself, but there so many brands such as L'oreal paris, Garnier, Clairol, etc. Even in the same brand, there are so many different types like herbal essence, couleur experte, etc. So what is what, and what should I use ? is there any difference ? Anyone who has experience about this, please help ! Or you can direct me to some link which can educate me about different hair dyes. Thanks !

I've got blonde hair. I dyed my hair red once. Or at least I tried to. It turned out an odd shade of pinky-red that made people I know laugh at me.
The moral of the story is: If you're gonna get it done, get it done properly.

Just dont get generic brands and you should be ok. I've dyed my hair several times and i use paris, It's sufficient. One time I sed Urban Decay brand and dyed my hair gangreen green lol. But always remeber, Bleach first if you have hair anyting darker than dirty blonde.

Yeah, to dye my hair is fine, I will simply follow the instruction, I just have problem in knowing which brands and type of hair dyes to choose. Even it's just L'oreal paris, there are like Feria, Excellence creme, Couleur expert. In Clairol, there are like herbal essence, hydrience, nice & easy, etc. I'm so confused, and I don't know what fits me. I was in the pharmacy yestoday morning, trying to question about different products, but there are no one in that section to answer my question. I was standing there like 20 minute just for reading and trying to find out which one fits me, some clients passed me for an employee and come to question me about the products, I was like wth...at the end, I wasn't able to buy anything.

It's my first experience with the hair hyes. It's not like with videocard ATI and Nvidia where I know much better, hl2 runs better on ATI and Doom3 runs better on Nvidia. Anyone who has exprience with those hair dyes, please enlight me. I just need the color to look good, to stay long and the texture after dyeing remains ok, if not natural.

Ok, to be totally honest, the reason I so want to dye my hair is not because I want to give myself a different look, it's because I have few grey hair (very few, but I still feel bad). I want to cover the grey, but I don't want other to know about my intention, that's why I want to dye it in another color. I really need to dye my hair as soon as possible. Please help !

Calm down sonny, get a grip ... if people judge you any different because you have a few grey hairs then they don't deserve your attention - they're a waste of oxygen. I'm sure you look fine.

It's ok, i haven't killed myself yet, just tired of being desperated in looking for solution and I went to bed.

So, not many people here dye their hair ? No one knows the difference between the marks and types of hair dye?? I mean if want to dye your hair, u will just go to salon or walk into the pharmacie to pick up any product that looks ok to you ??

Some people told me that they found they are allegic to certain hair dyes after they dye their hair without really knowing what they are using. Also Some hair dyes make their hair felt like plastic.

I usually dye my hair purple or blue. I can't remember which dye I use - I just browse around and find one with a good colour.

you don't really need to worry about what sub-categorie you buy. Just get one as close to your natural hair color as possible.

Do you buy a special stuff when bleaching hair, or is it like it says on the tin.. do you use the stuff your mother keeps under the kitchen sink and tells you not to drink?
