I don't subscribe to any other Half-Life forums, so have posted here - please move if you feel it's in the wrong place.

Decided like many of you to play Half-Life¹ again, whilst waiting for the sequel.

I've now got a LCD monitor and it's native resolution is 1280x1024, is there any way to force the game to run in this res?

Also, apart from bumping all the ATI options to full, like AA and AF are there any other tweaks/patches to improve the graphics at all? - seems really blurry - can't recall it being like that, but thats prolly just cus I've not played an "old" game for a long time :)

thanks for any help

hmm...isn't there an INI or config file with res in the HL directory...

just change that line...

nah, the Quake engine just uses mode numbers - i.e. 1024x768 is mode 3 I think.

i tried to do 1280x1024 but I got crazy tearing...and yes vsync was enabled. So I dunno. That was the steam version, by the way.

you can change this whit regedit - where or what values I dont know but this shouldnt be so hard to search/find.

ps
I think 1600x1200 is the max res btw - and thing are small then I thell you(incluning the fps :] )

I was able to run Half-Life at 1280 x 1024 after installing Steam and letting it convert/update the game - no .ini editing or special tweaks required, it was just there with the other standard resolutions as part of the update.

I'll leave it up to you to decide whether installing Steam is something you want to do to enable the new resolution; as you're probably aware, Steam is not exactly working great at the moment. I decided to get rid of it and reinstall my Half-Life games after all the problems, but it was an easy decision for me since I have a CRT monitor and don't play any of the Half-Life multiplayer games.

steam for me allows me to run 1280x1024 on my sony LCD
before then, id do "real zoom" with 1280x968, where it wouldnt show screen on top and bottom a bit, so it wouldnt scretch the image :D
