Imagine Valve would do a Source TC for Half-Life 1 or that Half-Life 2 automatically upgrades your Half-Life 1.. Wouldn`t that be awesome? Half-Life 1 with physics, ragdolls?
I think Valve is crazy enough to pull that one off..

"and so I bounce high. Till she cry 'Gamer, gold-hatted, high bouncing gamer, Half-Life 2 is released!'
:bounce:

I don't think so. I doubt they have the time to rehash an old game, especially with an expansion pack already in the works.

There would also be too many technical problems i think, but who knows, maybe the modcommunity will pick up on this.

Ot would be nice, but I think it would only happen once all the expansion packs have been written. Maybe it would be released as a expansion in itself. Black Mesa : Reloaded? LOL

Doesnt condition zero impliment ragdoll physics?

That would be so cool to fool around w/ the manipulator in HL1. Consider your offer, G-man? Consider this! he he I should write screenplays for action movies..

I think you are totally wrong. Why should they update the HL1 engine with HL2 code, the pure HL2 engine will be better anyway.

I'm thinking, making the Source backwards compatible. Somewhere in the Source I found somthing in dlls hl1player with eyes and physics.. Plus they mention the physgun / manipulator when impulse 101 is activated. I'm no codemonkey but I'm pretty sure there is at least some hl2 stuff in that hl1 code

I'm pretty sure you will be able to play the original HL1 story with the HL2 engine or sth. like that. There is a lot of stuff that reads like that:

IF we are HL1
then do this and that
but IF we are HL2
then do that and this

If valve would release the orginal uncomplied levels (the rmf's) then it should be an easy mod.
Without them it's a lot more difficult.

And it would make some sense storywise. Not very many people who didn't play the first are going to play it without throwing up after they saw hl2 in its beauty. So with the compatibility thing they can play the first part and enjoy the story. Maybe thats the expansion pack they were talking about..

I remember reading about a group of guys that like to update old games. The one I saw was System Shock 2 remake. I think they called it System Shock 2: Rebirth or something like that.

Someone already asked gabe about releasing the source, he said he wouldnt make it open source because it would easily make the game easier to hack.

Yeah I tried that, the models really look much better (and there are new ones as well) Still looks dated though, 16-bit just doesn't cut it anymore.

A System Shock 2 (or 1) mod of Source engine, now that would be something! I don't think I'd even have the guts to play that :)

actually, Anon just released hl1 and cs ported into Source. believe it or not.
so technically its already done.
(it has all hl2 physics, lighting etc applied) I would link to some screenshots, but I would rather not get in trouble.
