Okay, I never finished 1, and want to get the story before playing HL2.

So, I have Source which lets you start anywhere.

Question is, whats the furthest in I can start without missing any real story?

Certainly skip the intro (train ride into work, making your way to lab). That's about all u can skip really.

The game starts after the experiment goes Pete Tong, there is no need to skip anything thereafter, and more to the point - you won't want to

Just play it from the start. And if you want the whole story you'll have to play OP4 and Decay.

Unless you play it fully afterwards, in which case you have nothing to regret, but you are better off playing it all straight from the beggining.
