As with any game I've played, the AI has to stop before they shoot. The Combine did this too as far as I remember. Didn't Valve tell us a year back or so that the soldier AI would be able to both run and shoot and strafe and shoot at the same time?

I'd like to have a company like Havok, but instead of focusing on physics, they ought to focus on AI. Game companys could then license the AI code. That would give the gameworld a nice boost of freshness in my opinion.

not when I play.. the a.i can run and shoot, and accuretly too..

thats a really good idea actually. an excuse for them stopping however, could be that in real life at least, you're more accurate when stood still. I challenge you to run and shoot and still hit anywhere near your target in real life.

I don't think AI is so easily integratable like physics. Every game uses polygons, and basically the same systems, and 3rd party physics engines will most likely fit in most engines. But the way characters are handeled is more dependant on the engine and is different with each.

But HL2 AI is able to shoot while moving. Only thing that puzzles me is why Combine soldiers don't retreat when a melee enemy is getting close to them. Let some soldiers fight zombies, they'll get owned. They'll take down a lot of zombies, but eventually, they'll all die.
However, resistance fighters back off when zombie is approaching them, and are able to slaughter entire armies of zombies without losing a single fighter. I wonder if Combine Elites are different, but I haven't found a way to spawn them yet.

I think it's really weird that the zombie is the only one that can deal with obstacles... a barrel in the way? no problem, hurl it at the enemy! A combine can smack you in the head, but he can't get knock over a simple barrel :(

that is kinda wierd now that I think about it...

Why would they do that??? :rolling:

"he can't get knock over"

lol at first I wanted to say 'get around', but they do walk around obstacles (that is, if that doesn't deviate too far off their path), so I changed it into 'can't knock over'.. well at least that was the idea ;)

this is a little bit off-topic, but wouldn't you wish for more solders through out the game?
