Hi folks. I'm new to the forum, but within 1 minute of my arrival i'm already needing some help.

Half-life 2 runs fine on my desktop, but I've ordered an Aspire notebook from.. http://www.acernotebooks.co.uk/asp/product.asp?product=195&cat=79&ph=&strShowBackLink=n

The notebook i've ordered is the second one down (in the list), for £755, its specs (down to basics) are as follows..

Pentium 4 3.0Ghz CPU (1024mb L2 Cache)
512mb DDR 2700
Ati Mobility 9700 64mb.
60gig HD (4200 rpm)

I realise the the low rpm on the HD will probably cause some loading issues, but what really worries me is the 9700, with it only having 64mb memory. Will i be able to run half-life 2 on this notebook, with a decent frame rate at 1024-768 resolution, preferbly on medium settings with no AF and AA?

I have my doubts, but i'de rather check and make sure.

Anyhow, thanks in advance for any help.

Garanga!

What do you consider a decent framerate? Some people are really picky, I'm not though. I think it will be a good machine to run it on. I have an athlon xp 2000+, radeon 9600 256 card, and 512 233 crappy mem. Your processor is a lot better than mine, but your vid card is low on mem. It may balance out, but Im not an expert. I think it will do well, a good constant 30-40 on medium id guess. If thats good for you, then cool. If not, upgrade the vid card.

I would theorize you'll do fine, but there is the chance the card isn't supported. The mobile gpu's are somewhat different. I think they are getting better at making them more compatible, and the 9700 isn't too old so you should be fine.
