i have a pc only for gaming but not online gaming
therefore it has no internet connection
can i download steam on another pc and copy to cd
and then install on gaming pc
also i dont have broadband where i live
how big is the download

Take your pc to somewhere with an internet connection.

Get it working on the network there.

Install Steam.

If you purchased a retail version of HL2, then install and validate your files, then get all the updates.

If you purchased HL2 via steam, then just let steam do the rest for you :)

ok but i dont want to set the gaming pc up for internet use
ie anti virus/firewall etc

You dont have to. Just download the stuff you need from Steam and disconnect it.

sorry should have said i live in england so its maybe different here
if i just tried to do that in 5 minutes i would have enough spam and other shite to disable any pc
looks like i have to connect to the net and take all precautions
thanks for the help

really
its a wonder anyone uses the net at all lol
just connect to the net but don't open a browser
only open steam - let it update fully
open all your games one at a time while online and close them to make sure it worked
reboot and unplug the internet

Good point, how did you post this ..... I think i smell Bullshitz0r :O

The horrible nasty kind that you often seem to step in when walking down the street, although i may be confused with some other form of s*** ....

Would you rather other users try to figure out which part of the post i'm adressing?

Anyway, if you don't want to hook your pc up to the internet, then you don't get to play HL2. Simple as that.

And I don't get what you're talking about, "Oh well, it's different here in england". It's all the same internet man.

Just turn on windows firewall, update steam, disconnect. I do it all the time [for windows updates] when i've reformatted and haven't installed my AV programs and such.
