The people over at AnandTech have written a Half-Life 2 benchmark article with some
information about the driver versions for nVidia and ATI cards, pictures comparing the way the game looks in DirectX 8 and 9 and more.[br]

Around two years ago I spent a nice sum of cash getting the Radeon 9700 pro, the main reason being that at the time it was the only card out there with full DX9 support, and the performance of the card was the at the top in it's day. Games at the time didn't even take advantage of DX9 to any real extent, but I wanted a card that would last.
Am I damn glad I got that card now, 2 years down the road and I still have all the graphical goodness one could ask for. Performance for speed is a bit under 50% compared to the latest ATI offering, but the on screen result is the same. 1024x768, 4xAA for great looks, and good speed. Next upgrade for myself will be a new MB and CPU, the video card is still going strong. :smoking:
