The people over at AnandTech have written a Half-Life 2 benchmark article with some
information about the driver versions for nVidia and ATI cards, pictures comparing the way the game looks in DirectX 8 and 9 and more.[br]
You can find part 1 of the article here, and part 2 here.

indeed, very good articles. gets into all the little details about image quality frame rates, etc.

suggest everyone read this

wow thanks for the heads up, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for.

Around two years ago I spent a nice sum of cash getting the Radeon 9700 pro, the main reason being that at the time it was the only card out there with full DX9 support, and the performance of the card was the at the top in it's day. Games at the time didn't even take advantage of DX9 to any real extent, but I wanted a card that would last.

Am I damn glad I got that card now, 2 years down the road and I still have all the graphical goodness one could ask for. Performance for speed is a bit under 50% compared to the latest ATI offering, but the on screen result is the same. 1024x768, 4xAA for great looks, and good speed. Next upgrade for myself will be a new MB and CPU, the video card is still going strong. :smoking:

9700 Pro Rocks

I know exactly what you mean. I'm never going to get rid of my 9700 Pro. It's going to go into my future museum of PC history.

dissapointed that they didnt use reflect all in the water quality options... :(
