Hello all. I got Hl 2 yesterday and installed it right away. The install and steam stuff went fine and the game does actually run... but in the intro everything runs with one frame per second, and audio stutters heavily. When you get control of Gordon the game runs perfectly... up to that point where a guy wants you to follow him in some room. There the game starts to go back to 1 frame per second and then restarts the laptop with a bluescreen.

I have tried all kinds of graphic options but it doesnt seem to help. When i start the game it tells me to update my geforce 4 440 go drivers, which i tried about 5 times, but my laptop just wont accept the new drivers. I really want to play the game and im about to reformat everything.. Does anyone know what to do ? Oh and its the german dvd version, played in a really slow dvd drive.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600
2200 mhz
1000 mb ram
Geforce 4 440 go
DirectX 9.0c

Thank you

Laptops suck for gaming

Your laptop just won't handle this game. That 2200 mhz processor is probably not a Pentium 4 or an AMD Athlon XP.Laptop processors are usually not as good as a desktop of a similar speed.I have a AMD Athlon XP 3000+ with the barton core and 3 gb of pc3200 ram and a ATI Radeon 9800 pro and I sometimes get a stutter runing this game with all effects on.

Just looked up your laptop and it is a celeron chip that runs at 1.5 ghz not 2.2 ghz. You my friend are at lower than minimum standards to run this game. The only laptops I know of to run this game are around $3500-$4000.

Yes the processor is a proper pentium 4. I don't beleive it's a cpu issue. I've just read a bit through the sound stutter thread and it's sounds like it's probably the same problem, pushed to the max.
