Half Life 2 Cheats

Hello there... i've been playing half life 2 for a little while now and I was going to start using some of the cheats however I had a little problem. I got the ones from over at IGN and to use them it says to "bring DOWN the console and enter 'sv_cheats 1'". You can see more of what im saying if you head over to IGN and check out the cheats section. I'm wondering if anyone could explain to me how to bring DOWN the console... i'm a little confused. i always wondered how do people get cheats? do they get them from the deveolper?

I'm a little confused. I go to the options in the game of half life 2? You just get the difficulty, keyboard, mouse, audio, video there... Do you happen to know what one it is in. I just took a quick check and couldn't find it.

well for half-life they're the same as in the original. Most developers use them when developing a mod - but people also use them to play around in the single player game.

And just a quick one to petey_chalflife - don't use cheats until you've completed the game, seriously. Do you really want to deprive yourself of the full and intended experience of the best FPS ever created? Do you? Come on, play the game the way it was meant to be played, feel proud and happy when you complete it, not guilty and ashamed - as you will be if you use cheats.

And if you've already completed it... well, ignore me!

Petey, you go to Options>Keyboard>Advanced>Enable Console

At least I think - Have fun!

you have to make sure console is enabled in the options menu...then do this.

you have to put "-console" (without quotes) in the propreties. if you go to Steam, right click on HL2, click properties, click advanced...type in "-console" (without quotes) then you'll be able to use ~ as the console key.

You cannot use the console before you are in the game. You gota start a new game or load a game. Then press the tilde key. (assuming u have enabled the console)

If you use the -console option in launch options you get the console befor e you're in a game.

And, as an added bonus it doesn't load the active backround so your initial startup time is a tad quicker!

Imo the active background was cool. But now when I've completed the game I have already seen all of them. So now it's good with faster startup =)

ummm, spiffe you are wrong. with options>keyboard>advanced>Enable developers keyboard. you can use it at the menu. how else would someone do commands at the menu.
